Races, Dates and Championship Qualification

A global trail run series that celebrates community and adventure above all else, combining the spirit of XTERRA with the most spectacular and iconic trails in countries across the globe.
The XTERRA Trail Run World Series invites runners of all levels—from amateur to elite—to come together and uncover the world’s most scenic and challenging trails. From the tropical paths of the Asia-Pacific to Europe’s towering ridgelines and the sweeping desert landscapes of the USA, this series is a global journey for those who live to explore—one full or half marathon at a time.
Built for runners of all backgrounds, the XTERRA Trail Run World Series features two accessible core distances—Trail Half and Trail Marathon. Whether you're chasing a personal best, soaking in the views, or simply joining the global trail running community, both formats offer equal adventure and an equal opportunity to earn your place at the Trail Run World Championship in your chosen distance.

Trail Half Marathon
Ranging from 15–35km, the Trail Half Marathon is ideal for runners stepping up in distance or seeking speed across varied terrain.

Trail Marathon
Spanning 36–54km, the Trail Marathon is crafted for experienced athletes in search of a deeper challenge and a true test of endurance.
Every race is a chance to experience new terrain, connect with the community, and—if you're ready—qualify for the Trail Run World Championship in the distance that suits you best.
Select races throughout the season are designated Gold or Silver status, offering deeper competition, more championship slots, and additional Trail Run World Series points—giving you more chances to qualify, compete, and explore.
All Trail Marathons and Trail Half Marathons on the schedule offer slots for the Trail Run World Championship. Gold and Silver events, which offer TRWS points and more slots are highlighted and include the event badge.

The XTERRA Trail Run World Championship is an annual celebration of nature, community, and the spirit of trail running. As a qualification-only event, the World Championship brings together top runners from around the globe to share their passion on select world-renowned trails. Driven by the vibrant community feel that defines the sport, the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship is more than just a race; it’s a gathering for those who find freedom on the trail.
In 2026, the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship moves to the heart of the Mediterranean, with the island of Gozo in Malta hosting the 17th edition on May 9. Set across limestone cliffs, coastal trails, and ancient valleys, the two championship courses trace the perimeter of an island shaped by wind, sea, and 7,000 years of human history. It’s a World Championship stage that invites discovery as much as it demands strength, with near-constant ocean views guiding every step. Check the race schedule to see where you can earn your qualifying slot and line up with the world’s best in Gozo 2026.
