To get to Costa Rica from abroad, you can fly into one of two international airports:
Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste, or Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José.
From Daniel Oduber Airport to Las Catalinas, the drive takes about 1 hour. There is no public transportation available from this airport to Las Catalinas.
From Juan Santamaría Airport, the drive takes approximately 5 hours. If your flight arrives late at night or toward the end of the day, I do not recommend driving to Las Catalinas that same evening. The best option would be to stay near the airport and drive the following morning.
There is public transportation that reaches a nearby town called Flamingo, which is close to Las Catalinas. The company providing this service is Transporte Inteligente de Guanacaste (TIG) (https://tiguanacaste.com/). If you choose to travel by public bus, be sure to select the route from San José to Flamingo.
If you are considering arriving in Las Catalinas by bicycle on race day, please note that unfortunately, roads in Costa Rica are generally not suitable for cycling. They lack proper lighting. While many locals do use these roads to commute between towns by bike, they are not ideal for safe cycling, especially for visitors unfamiliar with the area.
If you still choose to travel by bicycle, please take the following safety recommendations into account:
Always use both front and rear lights to increase your visibility.

Public transportation in Costa Rica is very accessible but slow... on the way to the final destination it stops in many communities and towns. From Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) you should be prepared for a trip of about 6-7 hours. If you bring your bike in a box you can store it in the trunk of the bus.
Flamingo is a town near Las Catalinas. From Flamingo to Las Catalinas you must take a Taxi, normally you will find taxis informing them providing this service. From Flamingo to Las Catalinas it takes approximately 15 minutes by car.
When you go to buy the ticket you can choose where to board the bus. This can be boarded from the Juan Santamaría International Airport.
