Is the bike course on-road or trail?
The majority of the bike course is on the trail around Hagg Lake.
Can I use a gravel bike?
For the XTERRA Portland Full Triathlon and the Duathlon a mountain bike is required, no gravel bike. For
the Super Sprint event, all bikes are welcome (except electric bikes), but note that the bike course is mostly
on trails.
Is the run leg on-road or trail?
The majority of the run course is on trails.
Do I need a wetsuit?
In years past, the water temp has been around or above 71 degrees. Meaning, you are allowed to wear
a wetsuit but you don’t have to. This year, with the high water levels and the cold spring, I imagine the
water will be a little cooler than in years past but we will not know until closer to the race. I would bet that
it will be warm enough to swim without a wetsuit.
I want to try the Super Sprint but I am nervous about the swim:
Our goal is to make the Super Sprint race as beginner-friendly as possible. Because of that, we have the swim
leg for the Super Sprint to follow the shoreline. If need be, at any time in the 200m swim, you can swim slightly
to the shore and touch. Also, you are welcome to use a life vest if you want.
My kid wants to do the Super Sprint and I feel like I should follow them:
Yes, you are more than welcome to follow your kid. When you pick up their packet, let us know and we
will give you a volunteer t-shirt to wear and you can follow your kid in the swim, bike, and run. Just don’t
follow them into the transition area, please.
I have a younger kid that wants to do the Kids Splash Pedal Dash:
Great! This is my favorite event. There is no pre-registration for this event. Raceday registration for this
will be at the registration table beginning around 11am. Remember,
helmets are required.
Can I do a relay?
Yes, relays are welcome and encouraged in all races.
Can I register on race day?
Yes
Can I camp at Hagg Lake the night before the race?
Yes. When you register you can add on the camping fee. And if you have already registered, just go
back to our registration page and you can add it on.
Do I have to get a parking pass at the Kiosk as I enter Hagg Lake Recreation area?
We highly suggest paying for the parking pass as you enter the Hagg Lake area. There are also pay
kiosks at the nearby Boat Ramp C where you can purchase your parking pass on the day of the race.
