The XTERRA North American Championship weekend of events includes live coverage of the exciting new XTERRA Short Track off-road triathlon format, plus full-distance and sprint off-road triathlons alongside a fun kids' bike race.
“We are thrilled to welcome the XTERRA World Cup and North American Championship to Oak Mountain State Park,” said Kendall Williams, Shelby County Manager for tourism and events. “We take great pride in our parks and county, and look forward to showing athletes from all over the world what true Southern hospitality is all about.”
As part of the XTERRA triathlon World Cup, Oak Mountain will serve as the second of seven stops in the global series of events that will award $340,000 to XTERRA’s fastest professional athletes. Both the full-distance off-road triathlon and the showcase Short Track events award points to elite athletes chasing the series cash and crown. And for amateurs in the XTERRA North American Championship full-distance triathlon, there are 58 qualifying spots into the XTERRA World Championship triathlon to be held September 21, 2024, in Trentino, Italy.
Surrounding the racing action is a family-friendly festival focused on delivering a premium outdoor lifestyle experience for athletes, spectators, destinations, and community members alike featuring live music, beer gardens, food trucks, kids races, and more.
