XTERRA Lory Triathlon on June 13th is the perfect kick-off to the year for the seasoned off-road triathlete or a great opportunity for the road triathlete wanting to try out a mountain bike triathlon for the first time.
The XTERRA Lory Triathlon features a 1/2 mile swim in the clear waters of Horsetooth Reservoir (Eltuk Bay), it's one of the most scenic swims in the state with canyon walls on both sides. Then it's on to a 2-Lap (beginner friendly) 12.2-mile single-track bike over rolling terrain, and across valley bridges at Lory State Park. Then you'll get to finish things off with a fun and challenging 4.8-mile (8k) run through the clouds on single-track trails! This is the perfect off-road triathlon for beginners to experts. The course is designed so that anyone can have fun and everyone will be challenged! Entries will be limited to 350 participants, and we sold out 2011-2019 in early April!
The XTERRA Lory Triathlon features a 1/2 mile swim (or stand-up paddle-board option) in the cool waters of Horsetooth Reservoir, a two-lap single track course on the beginner friendly mountain bike trails inside Lory State Park, and finishes with a 5-mile run that can be described as challenging but extremely rewarding! Oh, and did we mention the 25ft long Slip n' Slide waiting to cool you off at the finish line?!?!
When you register you'll be asked to rank your mountain bike ability on a scale of 1-4 (1 being "expert" and 4 being "beginner"), then we'll ask for your estimated 1/2 mile long swim time. When registration closes what we'll do is set up 10 swim waves that are based on having the fastest mountain bikers hit the trail system first. This will help ease congestion and passing on the 2nd lap of the course for a positive race experience for all!

Without Limits would not be able to continually produce top notch, fun events without the help of our volunteers. We would like to say thank you to all of our volunteers by offering discounted entries to other Without Limits Events. See the details of the volunteer discount program below and contact olympia [at] Withoutlimits.com with any questions. No experience is necessary for any volunteer position….only the desire to be part of the racer experience. Add together multiple volunteer opportunities to add up the discounts. You can also recruit a family member or friend to volunteer while you race, and that credit will go to you!
Redeeming your discounted entry: Please note that you must volunteer prior to the event you're hoping to use your discounted entry towards. Sadly we've had athletes race using their discounted entry and then bail without notice on their volunteer assignment. For more information please e-mail olympia [at] Withoutlimits.com.

Course Info - XTERRA Lory Triathlon
1/2 mile swim | 12-mile mountain bike | 5-mile trail run
The 1/2 mile long swim course for the XTERRA Lory Triathlon will take place in Horsetooth Reservoir, offering breathtaking views of the canyon walls on both sides of the reservoir. Water temp ranges from 68-72 degrees.
Swim Set-up: The 1/2m swim course is an out and back shape, with the swimmers traveling in a counterclockwise direction. Participants exit the water and follow the carpet all the way into the transition area. When you register, we'll ask for your predicted swim and mountain bike ability. This info will allow us to place you in the correct swim wave so you're biking with athletes of the same ability level.
XTERRA LORY BIKE COURSE (12.2 Miles)
The 2-Loop bike course for the XTERRA Lory Triathlon will take place inside of Lory State Park. Pre-Riding is encouraged to become familiar with the terrain and course layout.
Bike Set-up: This bike course has a bit of everything, from rolling hills to multiple bridge crossings! Get ready for some single track and more single track on this rolling and scenic course. Overall the bike course is very beginner friendly. Seasoned veterans don't despair, the fast flowing nature is sure to test your engine and high-speed technical skills. Elites to First Timers all comment, "that was just fast and fun!".
XTERRA LORY RUN COURSE (5 Miles)
Grab your run shoes and get ready to race through the clouds! The 5-mile run is an epic loop with amazing views of Lory State Park and Horsetooth Reservoir. You leave transition to the north on windy single track then cross the main park road. Once onto the Timber Trail, the race heads towards the clouds for a 1.75m switchback ascent. At the top take a minute to breathe and look around, we promise your jaw will drop! .5 mile of flat, then a screaming descent down Kimmons, followed by a flat last mile on the West Valley Trail. Once you cross back over the road and shoot into Soldier Canyon you're almost there.
Don't slow down though because you're going to need a full head of steam for the double lane Slip n' Slide. The best finish line in the sport, just remember to stay low and fast! Aid stations are located at mile 3/4, mile 3.8, and 4.7. We recommend bringing a Fuel Belt or running water bottle if the weather conditions are hot as there's no aid station at the peak of the climb!
