People of all abilities can participate in the 21km trail walk or run. The XTERRA Rotorua Festival is an event for people of all backgrounds that wish to enjoy an event set in some of the world's most stunning scenery. So it doesn't matter if you are a competitive walker or looking at your first ever event. The 21km trail walk and run has something for everyone. Competitors must be 14 years of age or older to compete in the 21km event. All 21km Half Marathon finishers receive a medal.

21K Trail
Scenic 21K trail run course with uneven terrain, rocky paths, and natural obstacles

The 21km trail event will start at the main beach of the Blue Lake and following Tarawera Road for 2.5 km to the far side of the Blue lake where walkers and runners will enter the forest at the lookout point parking lot and the 1st water station. Competitors head into the forest for 1km to the Blue Lake junction. Follow straight ahead here along Tikitapu Road till you come to the intersection of Tikitapu Road and Branch Road. Then head left down Branch Road to the old Green Lake Picnic area and your 2nd water station. From here competitors follow Green Lake Road turning left into Lake Front Road for 3km. This section has some spectacular views. At the end of Lake Front Road turn right into Mossy Loop Trail for 3.4km. This trail has some spectacular views. Then turn right into Mossy Track then right into Baja Track back before turning right back onto Green Lake Road and again the old Green Lake Picnic area for your 3rd water station. After the water station turn left up to Branch Road, Right onto Tikitapu Road till you reach the 4th water station at the Blue Lake junction. From here it's left following along the back side of the Blue lake and to the finish.

Your account will be charged in NZD. The name that will appear on your statement will be First Tier Sports Productions Limited. All entries are non-refundable. In the case of the event being cancelled for reasons of health, safety or natural disasters, entry fees will not be refunded. Entries can be transferred, please email here.

For the XTERRA Individual and Team events you have to be 14 years of age or older on race day to compete.

For the 21km event you have to be 14 years of age or older on race day to compete.

For the 5.5km and 11km events there is no age requirement, but all kids under 10 years of age, must be accompanied by an adult.

All entries are non-refundable.

Late Entry fee of an additional $10, will apply on race week Thursday at 11:59pm

RULES & INFO

The information below may be from a previous edition of the event, and is subject to change.

Numbers:  Numbers must be worn on the front of the body.  Cutting numbers or altering is not allowed.
Passing:  Lapped runners must yield to overtaking runners.  Runners should voice the command "Track” or ”On your left," when overtaking another.  It is the responsibility of the faster runner to overtake safely.

Slower runners must yield to the passing runner on the first command.
