The XTERRA North American Championship weekend of events includes the exciting XTERRA Short Track off-road triathlon format, plus full-distance and shorter off-road triathlons alongside a fun family 5K.

“We are thrilled to welcome the XTERRA World Cup and North American Championship to Oak Mountain State Park,” said Kendall Williams, Shelby County Manager for tourism and events. “We take great pride in our parks and county, and look forward to showing athletes from all over the world what true Southern hospitality is all about.”

As part of the XTERRA triathlon World Cup, Oak Mountain will serve as one of the stops in the global series of events that will award $340,000 to XTERRA’s fastest professional athletes. Both the full-distance off-road triathlon and the showcase Short Track events award points to elite athletes chasing the series cash and crown. And for amateurs in the XTERRA North American Championship full-distance triathlon, there are 58 qualifying spots into the XTERRA World Championship triathlon to be held October 10, 2026, in Ruidoso, New Mexico

Surrounding the racing action is a family-friendly festival focused on delivering a premium outdoor lifestyle experience for athletes, spectators, destinations, and community members alike featuring live music, beer gardens, food trucks, kids races, and more.

The XTERRA Youth Tour is designed to nurture the future champions of XTERRA, providing a platform for young talent to build strength and experience on off-road terrains around the world, and the chance to compete against the world’s best at the XTERRA Youth World Championship.

The XTERRA North American Championship Super Sprint and sprint distances are proud to be qualifiers for the XTERRA Youth World Championship, as well as host the North American Youth Championship. The Super Sprint distance will be a Youth A qualifier while the Sprint distance will be the Youth B and Junior qualifier.

Join us and be part of a fantastic international event weekend with some of the best athletes from all over the world swimming, biking, and running right in Pelham, Alabama. We are looking for groups or individuals to serve as course marshals and sweeps, help with timing, and hand out recovery at aid stations.

All multi-sport athletes during the XTERRA North American Championship weekend will be required to have a USA Triathlon license in order to race. If an athlete does not already have a USAT year-long membership, during the registration flow, athletes will be given the opportunity to purchase a one-event license (Bronze Membership). The Bronze Membership allows athletes to race in a single USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event without an annual membership. Your Bronze membership also provides you with athlete participant accident medical coverage during the event. Bronze Memberships are purchased for a specific race, non-refundable and are not sold directly through USA Triathlon. Planning to race more than one distance at the event? Just grab the Bronze Membership for the longest race - you'll be covered for all the shorter ones too. Only Full Distance, Youth A (Super Sprint), Youth B (Sprint), and Junior (Sprint) individual triathletes from within the North American region will be in contention to be crowned as the 2026 XTERRA North American Regional Champion. The country of nationality indicated during the registration process should align with the country that issued the athlete's passport. Nationalities may not be changed mid-season.
