The Championship weekend of events includes live coverage of the exciting new XTERRA Short Track off-road triathlon format, plus sprint, super-sprint, and full-distance off-road triathlons alongside 5K and 10K fun runs and the signature half-and-full distance trail marathons.
“We are thrilled to welcome the XTERRA World Cup and Americas Trail Championships to Oak Mountain State Park,” said Kendall Williams, Shelby County Manager for tourism and events. “We take great pride in our parks and county, and look forward to showing athletes from all over the world what true Southern hospitality is all about.”
In addition, as part of the XTERRA triathlon World Cup, Oak Mountain will serve as the second of seven stops in the global series of events that will award $340,000 to XTERRA’s fastest professional athletes. Both the full-distance off-road triathlon on Saturday and the showcase Short Track event on Sunday award points to elite athletes chasing the series cash and crown. And for amateurs, there are 58 qualifying spots into the XTERRA World Championship triathlon to be held September 23, 2023, in Trentino, Italy.
In addition, the XTERRA Americas half-marathon and full-marathon trail runs will award more than $5,000 in prize money, continental championship titles, and XTERRA Trail Run World Championship qualifying spots to harriers from Canada to Chile as one of the pinnacle events on the XTERRA Trail Run World Series calendar.
Surrounding the racing action is a family-friendly festival focused on delivering a premium outdoor lifestyle experience for athletes, spectators, destinations, and community members alike featuring live music, beer gardens, food trucks, kids races, and more.
