WHAT: XTERRA Maui No Ka Oi VR Duathlons & Trail Runs
WHEN: November 5-9, 2020
WHERE: Virtual
COST: FREE!
The XTERRA Maui No Ka Oi duathlons and trail runs celebrate the Hawaiian island of Maui, birthplace of XTERRA and home to the World Championship off-road triathlon and Kapalua Trail Runs. It’s also a benefit for The Surfrider Foundation, which is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches.
The theme for this, our sixth XTERRA VR event of the year, is Maui No Ka Oi - which means "Maui is the best," a saying rooted in early Hawaiian chants and songs from the 18th century … and also an expression near-and-dear to the XTERRA Family.
November 8, 2020 would have marked the 25th edition of XTERRA Worlds in Maui “Off-road triathlon’s greatest day,” and with this VR event we honor our connection to the sport, the people, and the place we love.
Participants can choose from a duathlon featuring a 5K run, 30K bike, and 10K run, a Sprint distance Du, Trail Runs of 5K, 10K, 21K distance or the 5x5K relay team option.
Entry is FREE and the event will be held over five days - Thursday, November 5 to Monday, November 9, and runners (walkers too!) can log their times any day over that time period.
The races are part of a weekend-long celebration of all things Maui, including the Aloha Friday Live Show on November 6 @ 8am Hawaii time (10a PT, 1p ET, 7p CEST) on Facebook.com/XTERRAPlanet.
For the speedsters XTERRA is offering up the “Take on Tommy” challenge. XTERRA announcer and racer, Tommy Morwood from Australia, will run the XTERRA Maui No Ka Oi 5K VR race on his treadmill during the Aloha Friday Live show and anyone who enters “I’ll take on Tommy” into the comments section then posts a faster time than Tommy before November 9 will win a free Maui Gold Pineapple or Maui XTERRA Hat*.
Clifford Nae’ole, the Hawaiian cultural advisor for The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua – the host venue for XTERRA Worlds - will open the celebrations with a traditional blessing and chant. Hosted by XTERRA MC Chun de Stockel, the Aloha Friday Live Show will serve as XTERRA’s official kickoff and countdown to 2021 – its 25th Anniversary season - with special guests, giveaways, performances, and video presentations.
Among the promotions, XTERRA will provide one lucky viewer of the Live Show an entry into any XTERRA race – triathlon or trail run - anywhere in the world in 2021**.
*Maui Gold Pineapples can only be shipped to continental U.S. locations; all other winners will receive the Maui XTERRA Hat. Click here for official rules.
**To be entered to win participants simply need to watch the live show in real-time or later (either way) and type their dream race into the comment box. A winner will be chosen at random on November 10 at 10am Hawaii time. Prize is race entry only and other restrictions apply. Click here for official rules.

or

Don’t forget to tag @xterraplanet #xterravr on your story for a chance to be featured on our official Instagram. If you already have a Passport, you can search for the event stamp under stickers.
5. Select your own race course. This is XTERRA, so we encourage you to find some sweet trails, but we also realize that might not be an option for everyone right now - so we allow use of roads, trainers and treadmills. Pick what works best for your situation. Pre-run/ride your course so you know where to start and stop. You may need to add some distance to your route or stop before the end of your trail to match your selected distance.
6. During November 5-9, run/bike your selected distance(s). Keep track of your time using your choice of app. If you don’t have a tracking app, keep track on a watch. Be sure to stop your time at the exact distance you signed up for. You may choose to run/bike your distance(s) more than once over the 5-day period in pursuit of a faster time.
