ABOUT Stay Connected With Updates
WHAT: XTERRA Netherlands
WHEN: September 10-11, 2022
WHERE: Ameland, Netherlands
During XTERRA NETHERLANDS, the Wadden Island of Ameland is the beautiful backdrop for the ultimate battle with the islander elements; swimming in the Wadden Sea, mountain biking and walking through woods, dunes and on the treacherous beach. A sporting challenge for all ages and all levels in the middle of Unesco World Heritage. The beautiful (sports) experience starts during the crossing from Holwerd on the Frisian mainland and ends with an unforgettable finish on the XTERRA stage on Ameland.
The unique atmosphere of XTERRA NETHERLANDS fits in perfectly with the character of the hospitable family island where (top) sports experience goes hand in hand with beautiful nature experience. The organization and implementation of the event is largely supported by residents and enthusiasts of Ameland.
The cross triathlon on Ameland has grown into one of the most important races in the Netherlands and has also contributed internationally to the promotion of this off-road variant of triathlon sport. In the past, Ameland hosted the Dutch Cross Triathlon Championship several times under the name Tri-Ambla, and in 2008 even the 2nd European Cross Triathlon Championship.

BOAT TICKET PASSENGER AND BICYCLE TRANSPORT
The boat ticket for passenger transport and mountain bike transport will be sent on September 5 to the address given for participants who registered before 1 September 2022, with the exception of participants with an address on Ameland.
START ORDER
The order of the starting series of the Rabobank XTERRA JUNIOR with times and the layout of the course for swimming can be checked in Participant.
RACE BRIEFING
The race briefing is at 09.30 in the party room of Klein Vaarwater, where the clothes can also be put on the numbered chairs.
Everyone must then be present.
CHANGE CLOTHES
Prior to the event, the children can change in the party room next to the swimming pool. When the children come out of the pool, they must walk to their clothing via the indicated route. There they can then change clothes and prepare for the bicycle part. As a true triathlete you can just keep on your swimwear, you pull on your bike / running gear that saves a lot of work. The clothing can also be placed with the bicycle, but this should not hinder other participants.
NB If there are children who also change shoes after cycling, make sure that the running shoes in switch zone T2 are on your numbered spot! You have to take care of this yourself.
Parents are NOT allowed to enter the transition zone. Follow the instructions of the volunteers.
ROUTES
On the bicycle, the children will follow the course from the swimming pool via paved and unpaved roads and paths in the area around the ‘Oostbos’ and via Camping Kiekduun to change zone T2. This year the course of the junior S (12+ & 14+) race includes the beach trail.
Routes
- XTERRA NETHERLANDS Junior XS
- XTERRA NETHERLANDS Junior S
- Route for parents / supervisors from T1 to T2 / Finish
The route is marked with Yellow Route signs.
SWIMMING
During the competition briefing, the classification of the starting series will be announced and in which order and in which course the start will be made. This classification can be viewed on the website in advance. The children are in a job with a number of them. So take each other into account. Try to swim as much as possible after each other, so keep both the way there and the way to the right (then you swim as it were a kind of ’round’ within your lane). Swimming on the back is not allowed! You can use this to hinder other children. The Junior XS participants must be in the pool at 09:55, Junior S participants must be in the pool at 10:15 and can wait here at the children’s pool until the other starter series are ready.
View the map Klein Vaarwater (PDF)
BICYCLES
Everyone is obliged to wear a bicycle helmet during the race. This can be placed with clothing or with the bicycle. The bike must be placed before the start in the transition zone (change zone T1) at the indicated numbered places. Remember where you park your bike, and check your steering number on departure, so that you don’t take someone’s else’s bike. In the transition zone T2 at the finish the places are not numbered (follow the instructions of the supervisors).
If you do not have a good or reliable bicycle yourself, you can borrow one for free at Fietsverhuur Metz. Register for this via info [at] xterra-netherlands.nl, and include your height. Please note that these are rental bikes with 3 gears and no racing bikes. On the race day, or the day before, you can your pick up your bike at bike rental Metz (strandweg 37, Buren Ameland). This is close to Klein Vaarwater (± 400 m.). The bicycle must also be returned here. The transition zone T1 where the bicycles will be located is at the rear of Klein Vaarwater. Remember where you park your own bike.
RUNNING
The participants of the Junior XS (8+ & 10+) run 1 lap of 1.25 km. The participants of Junior S (12+ & 14+) run 1 lap of 2.5 km. The first part of the running round is the same for XS and S. In the Vleijen is a junction; S right and XS left. This is indicated by a sign and here the children also have to think for themselves. Both routes come together again later.
FINISH
Like all athletes participating in the XTERRA NETHERLANDS, the RABOBANK XTERRA JUNIOR will also finish on the site (T2 / XTERRA Village) behind Camping Kiekduun.
View the location map XTERRA NETHERLANDS
FOR THE PARENTS
Of course you want to help and assist your child as much as possible in this wonderful competition.
You can also help your child get dressed in the party room, but be careful not to obstruct any other children! Follow the instructions of the volunteers.
You may not enter the transition zone.
After swimming, you naturally want to go to transition zone T2, the finish area, as quickly as possible. To ensure that everything runs as safely and honestly as possible, we would ask you NOT to cycle with your child.
- If you do this, your child will be disqualified!
The change zone T2 is 200m from Klein Vaarwater. You will be on time to see your child switch from cycling to walking again.
Swimwear can be taken immediately. If you are in a hurry to stop thinking about it, the Klein Vaarwater party room will remain open all afternoon.
View the location map XTERRA NETHERLANDS
TIME REGISTRATION
For the registration of swimming, cycling and running times we use REGISTRATION Racetimer / Chronotrack time tracking system. Every participant is obliged to wear the (rental) transponder on the ankle. Required ankle straps are supplied with the transponder.
The (rental) transponder for time registration is issued when the participation package is collected from the race officet.
The transponder must be returned to the organization after the finish. If the transponder is lost or not returned, an amount of € 50.00 will be collected.
MATERIALS
It is possible to use an MTB from Fietsverhuur Metz during the XTERRA NETHERLANDS Junior. Send an email to info [at] xterra-netherlands.nl stating name, age and length.
The MTBs have to be picked up and returned at Bike Rental Metz in Buren.
TRAINING
Preparatory training sessions are organized in collaboration with the schools on Ameland. This is a wonderful promotion of the sports offer on Ameland and an incentive for children to discover and develop their endurance sports talents. Of course you can also train if you are not in a school on Ameland.
