WHAT: XTERRA USA Championship

The 21st annual XTERRA USA Championship off-road triathlon will be held in conjunction with a new family-friendly and community-focused weekend of events in Avon, Colorado, July 15-16, 2022. The triathlon will be held on Saturday, July 16.
It’s the first-time XTERRA has hosted its national championship in the Colorado Rockies, following 12 seasons at Snowbasin Resort in Utah (2009-2021) and eight years in Incline Village, Nevada (2001-2008).
There will be $25,000 in prize money awarded equally to the top 10 elite men and women, plus XTERRA USA Championship crowns to age group division winners along with 51 qualifying spots into the 2022 XTERRA World Championship to be held in Trentino, Italy on October 1.
In addition to the main event, XTERRA will host sprint and relay races along with a variety of other endurance events for the whole family including kid’s races, yard games, vendor booths, food trucks, beer gardens, and live music at the marvelous open-air Nottingham Park Pavilion in the heart of Avon.
THE CYCLE EFFECT
Our community outreach partner is The Cycle Effect, which was founded by XTERRA Family members Brett and Tamara Donelson. They empower under-privileged young women through mountain biking by focusing on physical wellness, community impact, and mentorship. By providing an opportunity for girls to be engaged in regular, healthy programs that help build their self-esteem and promotes overall wellness, girls are more likely to be healthier, stay engaged in school and set goals that will support their future. It’s real, it works, and we can help their team with donations of cash and gear (even a bike if you’ve got one to give!).
Race Events
Registrations after June 15 are not guaranteed an event t-shirt. If you are a valid military ID holder, use the code "MILITARY" for a 10% discount during registration checkout.
XTERRA CHAMPIONSHIP
Distance: 1,500m swim / 24k MTB / 9k trail run
The event will feature $25,000 USD in prize money for elite athletes. For amateurs, there will be 51 spots into the XTERRA World Championship in Trentino, Italy up-for-grabs.
XTERRA SPRINT
Distance: 750m swim / 14k MTB / 5k trail run
The XTERRA Sprint race is a half-distance race on the same course and day as the championship race. The race provides a great opportunity for new competitors.
XTERRA KIDS K AND BIKE RACE
Distance: Free age-appropriate-distanced kids' races during the Saturday evening festival.
Runs: Ages 10 and under | Bike: Ages 7 and under | Pushbikes are allowed. | Finisher prizes will be awarded.

Note: An extra qualifying slot will be awarded in each division per every 10 participants in an age group. For example, if there are 25 finishers in the 20-24 men's division category, then four slots will be awarded in that division.

Festival Events
FREE LAKESIDE YOGA - Friday, July 15 @ 5:15pm - 6:00pm
Join local yoga instructor, Julie Kiddoo from REVOLUTION POWER YOGA for a free 45-minute session on the Avon Performance Pavilion lawn at Nottingham Park. Bringing your own mat is encouraged, but the event will have a few extras for out-of-town visitors to use.
Find Julie's group and a few minutes of relaxation to the right of the stage on the lower lawn close to the lake. No registration is necessary. All are welcome.
SunsetSUP! - Friday, July 15 @ 6:00pm - 8:30pm
Compete with yourself and other paddlers at the SunsetSUP Race on Nottingham Lake. These races are perfect events to meet other paddling enthusiasts, get out on the lake and push your skills to the next level. The SUPer fun races are in partnership with SUP CO.
Join us and bring all your friends for our inaugural SUP’er fun race SUP series on Nottingham Lake to win prizes and/or bragging rights! Compete with other paddlers or meet new paddling enthusiasts at SunsetSUP! Enjoy a perfect evening and sunset on Nottingham Lake.

LAKESIDE CINEMA - Friday, July 15 @ 8:15pm
Grab your friends and family and join us at Nottingham Park to enjoy a family movie on the big screen! Come early and enjoy a picnic in the park, paddleboat, or SUP board on Nottingham Lake, stroll through the park or check out the new playable music instruments near the Recreation Center. The movie begins at dusk (around 8:15 p.m.) and seating is on the grass field, so bring a lawn chair or blanket, pack the popcorn, and sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Join us for an evening full of Indie, Americana, and Colorado Bluegrass vibes from Trout Steak Revival. The concert is FREE for racers and non-racers alike, so celebrate your XTERRA finish by joining us alongside this awarded, local Colorado band.
Trout Steak Revival
Ever since winning the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, Trout Steak Revival has quickly become a quintessential Colorado band. The band’s brand of songwriting, balanced by their indie-folk and bluegrass sound, resonates to listeners and concert-goers nationwide. Among the band’s accomplishments, the band won an Emmy Award for a soundtrack they contributed to a Rocky Mountain PBS. They collaborate with school children in mentoring programs in Colorado and nationwide as part of the Can’d Aid Tunes Ambassador Program. Their music is featured on Bank of Colorado’s radio and television advertisements. Westword named them Denver’s Best Bluegrass Band multiple times, and they were nominated as a Momentum Band of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association.

The Proper Way
The Proper Way began when multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters Shane Osguthorpe and Scott Rogers met while playing a local festival. When a performer failed to appear, the two—who had never played together—were asked to fill in the slot. The musical connection was immediate, and they began performing occasionally with one another.
They established themselves as The Proper Way in 2016, when a promoter invited them to come for a series of shows in Lake Tahoe.
After touring nonstop for two years, the band joined forces with friend and fellow singer-songwriter Carrie Myers to release Ain't No Good Thing Ever Dies, a collection of songs by Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, in 2018. The musical connection with Myers was so obvious, and they had so much fun performing and recording as a trio, that Myers joined the band shortly afterwards.
Their most recent release is All Is Not Lost, a collection of songs by the Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit.
Festival FAQ
May I bring my own alcohol?
No, even though Nottingham Park has been designated as an “open container” this summer, during special events where alcohol is being sold, like the XTERRA USA Championship, alcohol is not allowed within the liquor boundary.
What about non-alcoholic beverages?
No single-use plastic vessels will be allowed at the event. There will be free water filling stations and canned products available for purchase. There will not be any beverages available for purchase in single-use plastic bottles. Additionally, you will not be able to bring any single-use plastic bottles (including but not limited to water, sports and energy drinks, juice, tea and coffee drinks, etc.) to the event.
May I bring my dog or pet?
We love all four-legged furry family members. In general, well-behaved leashed pets with owners present at all times are allowed at special events and may be restricted to specific “dog-friendly” areas of the venue.
Is smoking allowed?
Avon is a smoke-free community (tobacco, marijuana, etc.). The smoking of marijuana in any outdoor area, public or private, in Avon is illegal.
Are events accessible to people with disabilities?
Yes, our event venues all have hard surface paths and locations which will accommodate access.
May I bring a chair or blanket to the event?
Absolutely! We ask that you respect other guests' viewing, but feel free to enjoy the show from your own chairs or blankets.
What happens during inclement weather?
The event will happen rain or shine.
Will there be food and/or beverages for sale?
Yes, food and beverages will be sold at the XTERRA USA Championship.
Where can I park?
We encourage the use of public transportation, riding a bike, or walking. Free parking is available at Avon Elementary School, and on-street parking on W. Benchmark Road and Lake Street, etc. Some events will allow parking at the Bear and/or Elk lots located on Highway 6. Please check the specific event website page for details.

Remember your reusable water bottle – Plastic-Free Event!
XTERRA will be supporting the Town of Avon with their Plastic-Free events initiative. Fostering a culture of environmentalism, waste mitigation and energy conservation which minimizes the negative impacts to our collective environment and community for the long term is of utmost importance to the Town. The Towns environmental sustainability initiatives and Eagle County’s waste diversion goal of 50% reduction by 2030 (zero waste events utilizing leave no trace practices).
All finishers of the XTERRA USA Championship and XTERRA Beaver Creek Sprint races will receive this reusable, stainless steel cup to use at the festival.
Rethink Your Ride
The use of public transportation is encouraged as well as walking or riding a bike to all events.
If a car is necessary, please offer your friends a ride and carpool.
Bike Valet Service
The SAG Wagon will be sponsoring a complimentary bike valet service for all Avon festival attendees. This service will be open Saturday night from 4pm to 9:30pm. Any tips that are received for this service will be donated to the event beneficiary, The Cycle Effect.
New Transition Bags
The XTERRA USA Championship is making the switch from traditional, plastic garbage bags to Emily's Choice biodegradable garbage bags for use in transition.

The minimum stay required is 2 nights, unless a specific residence/home requires a longer stay.
Standard policies apply:

Festival Shuttle Bus
The Town of Avon is providing XTERRA athletes with a special, Town of Avon-branded bus service for the post-race festival events. This "Special Event Bus"-labeled shuttle will operate for nine (9) hours between Nottingham Park (Lake Street Stop) and Beaver Creek Resort (top of Village Road) running on the half-hour beginning at 1:30pm and ending with the last pickup at Nottingham Park at 10:30pm and dropping off at approximately 10:45pm at Beaver Creek Resort.

Getting around Avon
Public Transportation & Parking:
- The use of public transportation is encouraged as well as walking or riding a bike to the park.
- Free on-street parking is available, including on W. Benchmark Road and Lake Street, as well as at the Avon Elementary School Parking Lots.
- The Elk Parking Lot will be available for race and post-race events. The Bear Parking Lot will be available for post-race, festival activities only.
Getting to the Avon Performance Pavilion, The Terrace, and Harry A. Nottingham Park:
From Denver traveling on I-70, take exit 167 into Avon. From Grand Junction traveling on I-70, take Exit 168 into Avon. Take Avon Road, which on event day will direct you to parking areas. The park is located at One Lake Street.

2022 VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
Join us and be part of “the greatest race on dirt” - a fantastic international event weekend with some of the best athletes from all over the world swimming, riding, and running right here in Beaver Creek. We are looking for groups or individuals who have a few hours to spare to help with the event.
Various duties include helping register athletes before the race, body-marking, prepping food/drinks in the recovery tent, handing out water/Gatorade on the course, being a course marshal, helping out the timers, and more.
Volunteers will get a great-looking event t-shirt, lunch, all the Gatorade they can drink, and the undying gratitude of the XTERRA family. The XTERRA crew will deploy volunteers to cover road crossings, help with transition (this is where the athletes go from swim-to-bike and later from bike-to-run), and hand out water and drinks at aid stations, at the finish line, and with timing.
If you cannot volunteer for a full shift, please just contact us in advance and we can accommodate your schedule.
Fundraising opportunities are available for teams, clubs, or any groups looking to raise money for their organization.
