About
WHAT: XTERRA Iceman
WHEN: February 27, 2021
WHERE: Lake Pleasant Boat Ramp, Morristown, AZ 85342 (map it)
It was the only race to be held in the U.S. last year before the coronavirus took hold and it's the first race back since.
The second annual XTERRA Iceman off-road triathlon is on for Saturday, February 27, at Lake Pleasant Regional Park which is located about 45 minutes outside Phoenix, Arizona.
The limited number of entries sold-out, and a full slate of COVID-19 Safety Protocols are in place to offer up a USA Triathlon Safe-Race Sanctioned environment for participants. Those lucky enough to have one of the 100 spots for Saturday’s XTERRA can look forward to a 750-meter cold water swim, a rolling 20K gravel bike course, and a wide-open 5K trail run with just enough fun single track and ankle-biting rocks to ignite the “Live More” spirit.
“Super excited to get back into some racing, and this is a great place to start,” said XTERRA U.S. Technical Director, Kirk Ermels. “The course is perfect for newcomers to mountain biking and can even be done on a gravel bike with straight bars.”
In addition to the XTERRA, which is offering XTERRA World Championship qualifying slots to every age group division winner, Iceman organizers are also hosting an off-road duathlon, a road tri and duathlon, and even an aquabike race.
“It’ll be fun to see everyone, well at least their eyes from a distance,” smiled Ermels, noting the mask and social distance mandates in place at the venue. “The swim starts for all races will be one at a time, and they’ll be masked all the way up until they enter the water and again as soon as they cross the finish line. So, there won’t be a big awards ceremony or post-race feast, but it’ll still be great to get back to doing what we love.”
