“I’m so proud of our XTERRA community in Taiwan, the athletes and crew, who have done all the right things over the last few years to protect each other and the environment,” said XTERRA World Tour president Janet Clark.
For XTERRA fanatics across the globe, the dream is Kenting.
It’s practically COVID-free, boasts one of the most spectacular natural environments on earth, and this weekend it’s hosting adventurous off-road triathlons, duathlons, the kickoff event of a brand new XTERRA Trail Marathon Series, plus 5K/10K/28K runs and kids races for more than one thousand happy locals.
And while the organizers of the 2021 XTERRA Taiwan off-road sports festival can’t wait to once again host the Asia-Pacific Championship race and have legends like World Champ Brad Weiss on the start list … celebrating the healthy, active, outdoors lifestyle with each other is amazing enough for now.
“I’m so proud of our XTERRA community in Taiwan, the athletes and crew, who have done all the right things over the last few years to protect each other and the environment,” said XTERRA World Tour president Janet Clark.
“For all the hard work they’ve put in knocking down the coronavirus, launching a new marathon event, and building trails with the Taiwan Thousand Miles Trail Association (watch video), they deserve this weekend, and I couldn’t be happier for everyone involved.”
The main event, honored as the "Best Off-Road Triathlon in Asia,” starts with a 1.5-kilometer swim in the warm, clear waters of Little Bay Beach, follows with a 28-kilometer mountain bike that traverses coastal terrain to rocky riverbeds to uncharted territory high atop Menmalou mountain, and finishes with a 12-kilometer trail run through the “enchanted forest” of Chihniuling.
In this video, XTERRA Coach of the Month Yuang-Ken Hsu breaks down what racers can expect from the challenge.
In addition to helping others be their best, Yuang-Ken Hsu is also one of the top contenders to take the overall title in Saturday’s race but fellow XTERRA coach and elite off-roader Cliff Chiang has ambitions of his own, as do stand-out newcomers Sam Hsieh – Taiwan’s top road triathlete – and Dan Chiang – Taiwan’s top mountain biker, are up for the challenge.
And when the day is done, the night ushers in one of XTERRA’s most iconic after parties, an amazing sunset dinner celebration on the dazzling coast of Kenting.
Next year, meet us there, and we’ll all enjoy the ride together!
