SWIM CANCELLED

The swim portion of the XTERRA World Championship has been called off due to hazardous water conditions at D.T. Fleming Beach.

Multiple factors led to the decision including huge surf, strong currents, heavy rain, high winds, potential brown water conditions and dangerous marine debris.

The race will convert to a run-bike-run duathlon that starts with a 3K run and follows with the originally planned 31K mountain bike and 11K trail run.

Find the alltrails and google map links to the 3K run here:
View in alltrails.com I View in google maps

Saturday at 3pm, we’ll have the competitor race briefing in the ballroom (same place as the dinner) and right before that at 2pm, Ruben Ruzafa, Melanie McQuaid, and Mauricio Mendez will lead the XTERRA University clinic. Please come to both if you can.

If you can’t be on-site, watch the athlete briefing live on Facebook.com/xterraplanet.

Wednesday, December 1 (9:30am)

Packet pickup is OPEN today, 9am- 2pm, in the Plantation Room at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua.

Remember to wear your mask, bring your I.D., and proof of vaccination or negative covid test (and USAT card for the Americans).

If you have not filled out your vaccination status, please do it now by clicking this link:

https://www.xterraplanet.com/worlds-health-short

Note: You’ll need to get a wristband to access the bike and run courses, and check-in with marshals at the tunnels.

The ocean is fairly calm today, small surf, but do check-in with lifeguards if you have any concerns and be safe out there.

The bike and run courses are OPEN, marked and ready to ride/run.

It rained last night, so it’ll be muddy this morning and dry out as the sun hits it. Better to run than ride this morning and let it dry.

There is a bike wash located in the small parking lot above transition to clean-up.

If you haven’t read the athlete guide, please do!

We will be posting updates as needed on trail conditions right here throughout the week.

November 3, 2021

On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, Hawaii Governor David Ige announced that the state will welcome international travelers to Hawaii under the new federal requirements (links in Oct. 25 update below) beginning Monday, November 8, 2021, and that it also would ease requirements for fully vaccinated domestic travelers.

NEW RULES FOR TRAVELERS
New federal requirements for international travel start Monday:

>> Non-U.S. citizens traveling directly to Hawaii from international destinations must present both a vaccination record and a negative COVID-19 test result (NAAT or antigen) within three days of boarding a flight to the United States.

>> U.S. citizens flying directly to Hawaii from an international destination have one of two options. They may provide proof of vaccination and present a test taken within three days of boarding a flight to the U.S. Travelers not fully vaccinated may provide proof of negative COVID-19 test result within one day of boarding a flight to the U.S.

>> There will be no additional state requirements for passengers flying directly into Hawaii from an international destination. Airlines will screen passengers prior to their departure to the U.S.

>> If foreign passengers fail to meet both requirements and if U.S. citizens fail to meet one of the two requirements, they will not be allowed to board the flight. Once in Hawaii, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will conduct compliance checks.

>> Tests do not have to be done with the state’s trusted travel partners under the new international federal requirements, but they must be done with a trusted travel partner for unvaccinated domestic travel.

>> International passengers entering the U.S. from another state or territory will be treated as domestic travelers when entering the state. The Safe Travels Hawaii program remains in place for domestic travelers.

Safe Travels Hawaii requirements for domestic travelers:
>> Create a Safe Travels Hawaii account on a digital device.
>> Enter trip details.
>> Fill out a health form.
>> Attest that all information is correct.
>> Starting Monday, November 8, 2021, domestic travelers may bypass the state’s mandatory 10-day quarantine by uploading proof that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved or authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and vaccines listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization.
>> Another way that domestic travelers may bypass Hawaii’s quarantine is by uploading a negative NAAT test result. The test must be taken by a trusted travel partner within three days of departure for Hawaii.
