Over 1,500 trail runners are registered for the inaugural XTERRA Taihu 5K, 10K, 30K, and 50K trail runs at the Taihu National Tourism Vacation Zone in Suzhou, China taking place on Sunday, November 15, 2020.
The 50K race, which routes through Yuyang Mountain and Guangfu scenic spots surrounding the famous Taihu Lake, boasts more than 2,100-meters of elevation gain and will award two International Trail Running Association (ITRA) points, the 30K distance will award one ITRA point.
The races are part of a “green weekend” to celebrate and honor the XTERRA China running community, who successfully completed a six-month “X-plogging” sustainability initiative.
“Plogging is the act of picking up trash while jogging, and it’s been amazing to see so many of our Chinese athletes embracing the initiative to clean-up the streets and trails where they live,” said XTERRA China organizer, Joffie Qiao.
In addition to the trail races, the XTERRA China team is also hosting additional sustainability initiatives including plogging events around the Taihu National Tourism Vacation Zone, donating $2,000 USD to the China Green Foundation to plant one tree for every athlete who participates, providing reusable cups, and eliminating plastic cutlery and plates.
The Icarus Sports media team will be on-site to film the event for local and international video distribution.
