The dream of traveling to one of XTERRA’s spectacular international destinations is stronger than ever and thanks to the Dave DeSantis XTERRA Legacy Grant - one lucky man and woman will make that trip a reality in 2021.
Nominations for the $2,500 USD per person grant are being accepted now through October 30, 2020 at https://www.xterraplanet.com/DeSantisLegacyGrant.
Made possible by 2015 XTERRA Warrior award recipient Dave DeSantis, his XTERRA Legacy Grant provides a man and woman, each year for six years (2018-2023), funds to support recipients with financial need go after their boldest XTERRA travel dream, and result in a connection with the global XTERRA community through a shared love of the “Live More” spirit.
An ideal Dave DeSantis XTERRA Legacy Grant trip would take the recipient to a country they have never been before where they can immerse themselves in a foreign culture, make new XTERRA friends, and perpetuate the memory of Dave DeSantis, who was an inspiration to everyone he met.
In 2013, DeSantis was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma and was given a year to live. He fought the cancer with everything he had and continued to race XTERRA through his treatment. The XTERRA community was a source of support and strength for Dave in his long and valiant battle with melanoma that ended on June 5, 2017.
In his memory, XTERRA renamed the recurring XTERRA Warrior Award the Dave DeSantis XTERRA Warrior award and to celebrate his legacy further, his wife Kathy Doyle established this grant to provide other athletes the opportunity to follow in his footsteps.
“Dave traveled and raced XTERRA all around the world. He rode with passion in his heart and love in his soul,” said Doyle. “The sport brought immeasurable joy into his life, and his happiness was obvious when you heard him cheerfully whistling while pedaling away for another ride, another race, another challenge.”
