MelRad’s Mobility Ankle/Hip Series Tutorial
In this week’s training spotlight we head to Victoria, B.C., Canada where the highly entertaining and three-time XTERRA World Champion Melanie McQuaid will lead us through the famous MelRad Mobility Ankle/Hip Series of exercises to improve our range of motion, flexibility, and strength.
“This Series is great for developing explosive strength and power, especially in lateral movements like the ones you need for trail running, and also to pump the mountain bike on singletrack,” explained McQuaid. “For this session, it’s important to remember we are training to be better triathletes, not to be great at strength training exercises, so tailor the workout to meet your own comfort level.”
In this fun and descriptive video, XTERRA Coach McQuaid demonstrates five low squat movements that will help optimize our ankle strength:
1. Low squat to kneeling flow
2. Low squat knee drop
3. Low squat side lean
4. Low squat leg extension
5. Low squat leg extension -runners squat-leg extension series
