Mike Hermanson from Louisville, Kentucky and Amy Carver from Charlotte, North Carolina won the XTERRA Myrtle Beach off-road triathlon at the Horry County-Carolina Forest Bike & Run Park, aka "The Hulk", in South Carolina on Sunday.
Powered by the fastest run-split of the day Hermanson took the tape in 1:48:41, a little more than one-minute ahead of Dwayne Dixon in second. Charlie Ledford, who posted the best 14-kilometer mountain bike split on the day (57:54) finished in third.
It’s the second win in the series for Hermanson, who competes in the Midwest Region 30-34 division. His previous victory came at the XTERRA Fort Custer off-road tri in Augusta, Michigan last September, a race that counted towards 2019.
In the women’s race Carver didn’t post the best swim-bike-or-run but had the best combined time in all three to cross the line in 2:08:49, nearly two-minutes ahead of runner-up Jess White. Elizabeth Skiba from Chapel Hill rounded out the top three.
Myrtle Beach was the second of seven races in XTERRA’s Southeast Region this year, and race No. 3 is right around the corner as XTERRA Fort Yargo takes place in Winder, Georgia on April 27. XTERRA ATX in Austin, Texas, the second race for the South Central Region, is also on April 27.
