The 2019 XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Regional Champs earn a free ticket to the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship in September.

Dec. 12, 2018

The XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series – headed up by Tim Schroer and Dirty Spokes Productions – packed in a lot of races this fall. As a result, trail runners in Georgia were able to experience some of the most beautiful trails around the Atlanta region from Harbins Park to Mt. Tabor. With five races in just over two months, XTERRA Georgia trail runners became trail diehards. Some of these athletes became XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Regional Champs, not just because of their speed, but their willingness to keep showing up, week after week.

Rawson Chaplin, 55-59 champ, praised Schroer and his method of introducing runners to the trails.

"Tim cares deeply about his runners and wants each and every one of us to have a terrific experience," said Chaplin. "Have a suggestion? Tim is always willing to listen. He also finds great places for races. Tim and his crew do a great job of introducing runners to the local trail systems."

Athletes earned points in each race of the XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series. 100 points were awarded to each age group champ, with points awarded through 15th place. The athlete with the most points- by gender and age group- at the end of the season earned the title of XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series Champ and was awarded free entry into the XTERRA National Championship in Ogden, Utah in September 2019.

Sally and Allen Bray of Peachtree Corners each won their 40-44 age group. This is their third time as XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Regional Champs, which they earned by running in all five races of the series. Allen won his age group in two races, was second at one, and third in two. Sally was second in her age group at XTERRA Fort Yargo and won the other four in the series.

Barbara Ezell also won the regional champ title for the third time after winning her 60-64 age group at XTERRA Little Mulberry Park, Battle at Big Creek, and Harbins Park. She missed XTERRA Mt. Tabor because she competed in the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship on December 2nd and placed third in her age group.

Jerry Brown, the final three-peat regional champ, won his 65-59 age group and was undefeated at XTERRA Harbins Park, Fort Yargo, Battle at Big Creek, Little Mulberry, and Mt. Tabor, giving him a perfect season.

Gracie Griffith, Christine Guerra, Tammy Sinnette, Stephen Havard, Rawson Chaplin, and Victor Velloso were named XTERRA Georgia Trail Series Regional Champs for the second time.

Chaplin has no plans of slowing down any time soon.

"I'm just trying to stay healthy so I can keep on trail racing," he said. "It gets a little harder each year. It seems like there is always something that's aching. But overall I've been blessed and consider myself very fortunate each time I hit the trails."
