This is always a challenging time of year to stay fit. Pumpkin lattes, peppermint bark, and shorter hours of daylight can make it tough to stay focused. Plus, this is the most joyful time of the year – it’s definitely not the time to deprive yourself or choose a workout over a holiday party.

Running in the chilly morning air, racing with friends through the woods, and crossing the finish line knowing you did your best is what XTERRA in December is all about. The XTERRA Trail Runs this month give you a perfect opportunity to celebrate the dirt, the tribe, and yourself.

This December, XTERRA will be touching down in Alabama and California.

XTERRA heads to DeSoto State Park in Fort Payne, Alabama on December 8th.  The XTERRA DeSoto Trail Run will include both 15K and 8K options to suit your spirit of the day – whether it’s for long run or a shorter workout. Located on Lookout Mountain in northwest Alabama, DeSoto State Park is a perfect place to spend a day with family and friends.

Race director Glenn Ingram, of Black Squirrel Events said, “One of my favorite things about our XTERRA series is our family friendly atmosphere. The series allows runners of all ages and abilities to enjoy the trails together. Seeing the next generation of trail runners embracing the sport we love brings us great joy.”

Where the weather is always sunny, the XTERRA Crystal Cove Trail Run in Southern California (also on December 8th) is halfway between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, giving you plenty of opportunities to hit both the dirt and the sand. Featuring both a 6K and 15K, XTERRA Crystal Cove will give you a chance to check out the beautiful single track in the El Moro area of Crystal Cove State Park, which is one of Orange County’s largest remaining examples of open space and natural seashore.

Athletes can earn points in each race of the XTERRA Trail Run Series. 100 points are awarded to each age group champ, with points awarded through 15th place. The athlete with the most points- by gender and age group- after the last race in their Regional Series earns the title of XTERRA Trail Run Regional Champion and earns free entry into the XTERRA National Championship in Ogden, Utah in September. If a race offers two distances, only the longer distance awards XTERRA Series Points.

As the holidays move closer, we wish you a wonderful season and hope that the trails make the top of your list.
