On Saturday, September 29th, Matt Brown and Lynda Walker captured the titles at the XTERRA Noccalula Falls 15K in Gadsden, Alabama. Brown won with a time of 1:14:57 and Jonathan Wetzel was second in 1:15:58. Derrick Clark was third in 1:17:11.
Lynda Walker won for the women with a time of 1:41:06. Mary Alford was second in 1:41:57 while Ruth Downey was third in 1:44:34.
“XTERRA Noccalula Falls was a huge success and a great start to our second season,” said race director, Glenn Ingram. “The weather was incredible and made for great trail running.”
Ingram added that competitors on the trail on Saturday included the 2010 Mr. XTERRA Award Winner, Casey Fannin. Fannin won nine XTERRA Regional Championship titles in 10 years, is a two-time XTERRA World Champion and a two-time XTERRA Double finisher – completing both Ironman and XTERRA World Championships in the same year. Even more impressive is that Fannin is a true ambassador to the sport and the trails. He was key in finding the trails for and helping to organize the first-ever XTERRA Oak Mountain in Pelham, Alabama back in 2006.
“We pride ourselves on having a very diverse group of runners and our first race was no different. We welcome runners of all ability levels and backgrounds. Our commitment is to have the arch up, music rocking and cold water waiting at the finish line for everyone,” added Ingram. “We celebrate with the first warrior to cross as well as the last warrior because they are both victorious.”
The race on Saturday also included an 8K run. Bennett Browder won for the men with a time of 37:58. Adrian Gonzalez was second in 39:58 while Ryan Condy was third in 41:32. In the women’s division, Katelyn Williams won with a time of 46:09. Dawn Wilson was second in 46:56 while Maggy Perez was third in 47:11.
The next race in the XTERRA Alabama Trail Run Series is XTERRA Red Mountain on October 20th.
