On October 14th, XTERRA racers have the chance to compete in a truly unique urban triathlon just outside of Tempe, Arizona in Papago Park. XTERRA Rockhopper features a 1000m swim, 13-mile bike and 3.5-mile trail run. The event offers a challenge to triathletes of all levels, but its easy access from the city makes it a perfect beginner race. The smooth trails and low elevation get rid of the fear factor for beginning mountain bikers, while experts can take advantage of the perfect trails and test their skills and speed.
The swim at XTERRA Rockhopper is a one-loop, rectangular course at Tempe Town Lake. The mountain bike and run are each two loops on smooth trails, surrounded by magnificent sandstone buttes that rise and fall around you. Papago Park is also home to the Phoenix Zoo and world-renowned Desert Botanical Garden. Additionally, the park has an archery range, orienteering course, and fishing lagoon, making it perfect for everyone in your family or friend circle.
Points from the race count towards the 2019 XTERRA season, so get a jump on the competition and have a blast on this fantastic course.
