Klawitter, McDowell-Larsen Win XTERRA Fruita

Branden Rakita was the XTERRA Fruita overall champ with a time of 1:38:09.

Lukus Klawitter and Sharon McDowell-Larsen captured XTERRA Fruita for the amateurs. Not only was the race – held in Loma, Colorado on September 8th- the 2019 XTERRA season opener, it was also a gathering of some of XTERRA’s top athletes en route to the XTERRA Pan Am Championship on September 15thin Ogden, Utah.

Klawitter finished in 1:44:39 and Alister Ratcliff was second in 1:47:27. William Desportes was third in 1:51:55.

For the women, Sharon McDowell-Larsen upset the previously undefeated Margo Pitts. McDowell-Larsen finished in 2:02:25 while Pitts was second in 2:05:36. Lee Bryant was third in 2:07:06.

Both women will be at the XTERRA Pan Am Championship in Utah this weekend. They will be racing in different age groups but as both are fierce competitors, expect them to be motivating and encouraging each other to be their best on the Utah course.

Klawitter will also be at the XTERRA Pan Am Championship on Saturday. He won his 25-29 age group at XTERRA Beaver Creek and will be going after the same on Saturday where he will be battling Steve Croucher, John Sarikas, Claudio Borquez, and others for the title. Karl Edgerton, Mike Gommel, and Rife Hilgartner will also make the journey to Ogden from Fruita.
