As August rolls in and summer runs become bookended by back to school shopping, trust there is an XTERRA Trail Race in your neck of the woods to keep the spirit of adventure alive.
On August 18th, don’t miss out on South Carolina’s toughest 15K at XTERRA Table Rock. Held at Table Rock State Park, at the doorstep of the Blue Ridge Mountains, XTERRA Table Rock has both a 5K as well as the renowned 15K.
“It is one of the most difficult 15Ks in the South Carolina area,” said race director Victoria Seahorn. “But it’s also incredibly fun. You’ll be able to stick your head in waterfalls and hop over rocks and streams as you make your way to top of Pinnacle Mountain.”
The 5K carries you across single track trails towards Pinnacle Mountain and then back down for a quick preview while the 15K climbs nearly 2,000-feet over the first five miles. As you summit Pinnacle Mountain, you will see Bald Rock and spectacular vistas on your descent.
If you happen to live halfway around the world from South Carolina, no problem. On August 18th, XTERRA Adventure Fest is taking place in Kapalua, Maui, where you can choose from a 5K or 10K. If you don’t live in Hawaii, XTERRA Adventure Fest is a perfect excuse to visit what has been voted the number one island in the world 23 years in a row by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. Even the keiki can join in the fun with their own 2K Kids Run.
On August 19th in Auburn, Alabama, experience the best of Clewacla State Park in 5K, 10K, and 20K distances at the XTERRA Auburn Trail Run. All three distances follow sections of High Gravity, Tiger Woods, and Rock Bottom trails. The 10 and 20K routes travel through the entirety of Rock Bottom and Tiger Woods finishing with a quick jaunt back to the top of Chewacla via High Gravity, while the 5K will travel down Fox Trail crossing over to Tiger Woods and heading back to the finish by High Gravity. Be sure to check out the views of the rock quarry, the creek, and Lake Chewacla.
On that same day, out west in Incline Village, Nevada, experience the beauty of the Sierra Nevada Range at the XTERRA Lake Tahoe Trail Run. The trail runs take place the same day as the XTERRA Lake Tahoe Off-Road Triathlon, making the day a celebration of fun on the dirt. Both the 5K and 10K start on the Village Green and head north onto an amazing trail system that will take you through forests of tall pines, aspens and creek crossings. Run one lap for the 5K or two for the 10K. There will also be kids races for children 4-12 years old.
