During the first half of July XTERRA will stop in North Carolina, Texas, New York, Indiana, Maryland, and Alaska. This marks the halfway mark of the 2018 season, and XTERRA is in its prime. The water is warming up, the trails are perfect, the sun is out, and athletes are on fire as they scoop up points towards a regional championship title and a trip to Maui for the XTERRA World Championship.
The first stop in July is at the US Whitewater Center for XTERRA Whitewater. The 9th annual event will test your swimming, mountain biking and trail running skills in a rugged off-road environment. The race begins with a 1K swim through the Catawba River, followed by 23K on the mountain bike across all difficulty levels of the USNWC trail system. The race concludes with a 6.5K trail run to cross the finish line.
The following weekend on July 14th and 15th, picking a race is tougher than deciding on your favorite flavor of ice cream. The XTERRA Northwest season kicks off with XTERRA Hammerman in Anchorage, Alaska. Held July 14, the XTERRA Hammerman Triathlon is a sprint-distance, off-road triathlon offering up a 0.5-mile swim, 13-mile mountain bike, and a 3.7-mile trail run. A grueling assortment of hills ensures a true athletic challenge. If swimming makes you nervous, consider doing the XTERRA Hammerman Duathlon. Running on the same course and starting at the same time, a shorter 1.8-k trail run is substituted for the swim.
That same day, XTERRA Sky High shows off the best of the Empire State in Grafton, New York at the beautiful Grafton Lakes State Park. The challenging race kicks off with a two-lap, 1K swim in the lake followed by a technical ride through some of the greenest woods you will have the chance to ride in. The run begins with a grueling climb to the top of Fire Tower Road. But go ahead and leave it all on the trail because after you hit the top, it’s back down to the beach and the finish line.
At XTERRA Sky High, the kids have their own race at 11am with the XTERRA Sky High Kids Tri, which consists of a 100-meter swim, a 5K bike, and a 1K run.
If you live in Midwest, it’s time for the first XTERRA DINO of the season at XTERRA DINO Northern Indiana. Held in Potato Creek State Park on July 14th, the half-mile swim, 16-mile mountain bike, and 7K trail run are the perfect mix of tough and tame. You will start from a sandy beach and jump in for the V-shaped swim, which includes one sharp left turn at halfway (a great opportunity to practice the sighting you’ve been working on!). You’ll climb out onto the grass and hop on your bike for a beginner-friendly course, meaning that if you are an XTERRA veteran, you can test your technique at high speed. Finally, the run over rolling hills is another chance to see what’s under the hood.
Heading into the heat, XTERRA Magnolia Hill closes out the races on Saturday the 14th. Located on a private ranch in Navasota, Texas, XTERRA Magnolia Hill is one of the only chances you will have to test out these exclusive trails. Swim in the sparkling clear lake and then shred through a shaded pine forest. While the XTERRA races in Texas are known for being tough and technical, XTERRA Magnolia Hill is suitable for all levels of riders.
On July 15th, XTERRA celebrates the 15th annual XTERRA EX2 in Flintstone, Maryland in Rocky Gap State Park. The XTERRA Atlantic season is in its prime in July and nowhere is that more evident than on the trails at Rocky Gap State Park. Consisting of both an off-road triathlon and a duathlon, XTERRA EX2 offers fantastic amenities, challenging trails, and a clear mountain lake. Just a 2.5-hour drive from Washington DC and Baltimore, it’s a great way take advantage of summer and make a weekend out of it. You can camp, golf, enjoy the beach, and of course race either the off-road triathlon or duathlon.
The XTERRA EX2 off-road triathlon includes a .75 mile swim, a 13-mile mountain bike, and a 5-mile trail run. The XTERRA EX2 duathlon features a 3-mile trail run, the same 13-mile mountain bike ride, and 5-mile trail run.
Then on July 21, it's time for XTERRA Beaver Creek!
