On May 26th, runners ran into the night at the XTERRA Rock Dallas Trail Run. With the half-marathon (13.1 mile) taking off at 5:30 pm, the 15K starting at 6:30 pm, and the 5K heading out into the dusk at 7:30 pm, runners had plenty of time to enjoy the Lone Star State’s night sky.
For the men, Derk Wadas took the title for the men in the half marathon, completing the course in 1:42, before the sunset. Aaron Pearson was right behind him in 1:42:36 while Rob Messett was third in 1:50:02. XTERRA regular Robert Lopez was fourth in 1:50:57.
For the women, Autumn Mattock crossed the line for the women in 2:14:52 while Gina McFarlen was second in 2:22:33. Autumn Kizer was third in 2:23:53 while Morgan Hoffman was fourth in 2:30:15.
In the 15K trail run, Kerri Dickey was first for the women in 1:38:29, followed by Emily Resciniti in 1:43:38 and Carolyn Classen in 1:59:54. For the men, Bill Knox crossed the line first in 1:28:57, followed by Matt Kopchak in 1:31:39 and Luis Andrade in 1:34:01.
"XTERRA Rock Dallas Trail Run 15K was my first trail race and I absolutely loved it," said Dickey. "I just started trail running a couple months ago. It's like an adventure with every step and is just crazy exciting making time fly. This race was particularly hot at the start and sweat literally dripping before we began the race! It was just another challenge to overcome though and to my surprise, I was able to accomplish just that."
In the 5K race, Victory Quezada took the overall win in 17:24, Jonathan Moody was second in 18:52, and Miles Kenner was third in 19:53. For the women, Cat Courtwright won in 22:59, Keira Primer was second in 32.02 while Georgeanne Dollar was third in 32:26.
