XTERRA Trail Runs Head South in May
This May no matter where you are in the country, you can find an XTERRA Trail Run. Held in state parks and college campuses, these races allow you to experience some of the most beautiful trails of Southern California, Texas, Virginia and New Jersey at the peak of spring.
On Saturday, May 19th, the final race in the XTERRA SoCal Trail Series takes place in Malibu Creek State Park, located near Calabasas, California. The 6K at XTERRA Malibu Creek is a great beginner’s course on single track and fire road trails while the 11K is more challenging and heads up the steep canyon trails. The 22K will take you up the infamous Bulldog Hill where your reward is an incredible vista of some of the best scenery in Malibu.
That same day, in Georgia, you can witness the magnificence of a Southern spring at XTERRA UNG. Held at North Georgia College in Gainesville, the 4K and 8K races are on well-maintained, campus trails making this an ideal trail run for beginners or those looking to experience the magic of the dirt.
If you happen to be in Virginia on the 19th, you can check out the unique course at XTERRA Charlottesville. The race will start at the Miller School of Albemarle, which is a day and boarding school with an internationally recognized high school cycling program for young athletes. The students themselves help design, build, and maintain the mountain bike trails on which the race will be run. Normally closed to the public, the 5K and 10K at XTERRA Charlottesville will allow you to enjoy these trails, with their challenging climbs and exhilarating descents.
On May 20th, at Parvin State Park, east coasters can choose between a 5K or 10K at the XTERRA Wetlands Trail Run. Located at the edge of the Pine Barrens in New Jersey, the park not only has pine forests but a swamp hardwood forest for a varied running experience that captures the best of the XTERRA Atlantic Region.
Next week, on May 26th, you can experience the beauty of spring in Flower Mound, Texas at the XTERRA Rock Dallas Trail Run. Whether you want to enter a 5K, 15K, or 21K race, you can enjoy the rooty, rocky trails around beautiful Grapevine Lake.
