On May 6, Neil Wesley, 32, and Alex Barr, 24, won the XTERRA Claw Run 10-miler in Lithia, Florida. Wesley’s time was 1:27:43 for the extremely challenging course, which included water crossings and several off-trail sections. Barr finished in 1:48:23.
Wesley was followed by Johnie Luvavali, 44, who finished in 1:27:44 and Turner Anderson, 23, was third in 1:28:16. Jill Corbett, 51, finished second for the women in 1:48:59 and Susan McMillan, 52, was third in 1:51:52.
“The race was even tougher this year since the river was higher,” said Corbett. “The first crossing at around mile two got us soaked to our shorts almost. Then when we had to cross it again at mile eight, it was high enough that I could swim across.”
Corbett also got a bit lost and ended up going about ten and a half miles, but she still had a great time.
“I love doing that race because it is so different than just a regular trail race and always unpredictable,” she said.
Jon Owen, 17, won the five-mile run in 36:05. He was followed by Branden Ullery, 42, in 37:14 and Tyler Benson, 46, in 38:21. Tracy Benson, 40, took the women’s five miler in 41:32 followed by Kim Sheffield, 52, in 42:09. Stephanie Carmack, 36, was third in 42:49.
