This holiday weekend, stay up too late, run in the dark, and enjoy the party at XTERRA Rock Dallas. On May 26th, you can choose from a 5K, 15K or 13.1 mile trail run on the Northshore Trail of Lake Grapevine in Murrell Park.
The half marathon begins at 5:30, the 15K takes off at 6:30, and the 5K heads out at 7:30. You can enjoy the sunset over Lake Grapevine and watch the stars come out. Bring a headlamp or a flashlight, because it will get dark, and some parts the course are technical.
Located just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Murrell Park has campgrounds, boat ramps, and miles of trails.
Next weekend, on June 2nd, XTERRA heads to Knoxville for the XTERRA Knoxville Trail Run at Ijams Nature Center (Mead’s Quarry). Located only two miles from downtown Knoxville, this races is a true urban wilderness. You will encounter plenty of rocks, roots, and climbing to test their grit as you run through five parks, featuring the old quarries and hills of East Tennessee with a perfect balance of neighborhood backyard feel.
The half marathon will explore some of the best single track trails that Knoxville has to offer. You will begin at the gravel parking lot at Mead’s Quarry and head down the paved trail for nearly a half mile before funneling down into single track trails.
The 4.6 mile course takes a stroll out of the quarry and into the wooded forests of South Knoxville and progressively gets tougher. Rolling hills give way to rocky ascents before ending with a challenging climb around Mead’s Quarry. The views around the quarry are amazing, but you have to earn it. This is also the run course for the XTERRA Knoxville Triathlon which will be held on June 3rd.
