Put XTERRA Beaver Creek on Your Bucket List
It’s hard to imagine a better place to be in late July than the mountains of Colorado. Warm, sunny afternoons and cool clear nights defy summer’s “dog days” and provide the perfect conditions for hiking, golfing, fishing, exploring …. and oh yes, running!
Located 8100 feet up in the air at the Beaver Creek Resort, the XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Runs are races for your bucket list. Consisting of two, 10K laps, the course is a mix of sweet single track that serpentines through skyways and glades of aspen. Each lap includes 1300 feet of climbing, making it one of those races to train for and then conquer. This is about as far as you can get from a turkey trot on asphalt. And yet, with distances that range from 5K to 20K, all runners can find their pace at XTERRA Beaver Creek.
Held the day after the XTERRA Beaver Creek Off-Road Triathlon, the XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Runs complete a weekend celebrating the Live More lifestyle, including a community swim in the clear waters of Nottingham Lake, the XTERRA triathlon, an expo to check out all the new XTERRA gear, a Paul Mitchell Cut-a-Thon to benefit challenged athletes, and lots of post-race activities.
New this year is a hike to the top of Grays Peak on Monday to benefit the 2xtreme Foundation. Grays Peak is one of the closest 14ers (peaks over 14,000 feet) to Denver and a relatively easy one to tackle, so no climbing experience is necessary.
Located just about 10 miles from Vail, Beaver Creek Resort in Avon, Colorado, is a virtual playground. From hiking and horseback riding to zip lining, and yoga, Beaver Creek Resort has adventures for every athlete in your family. Even better, if you book your stay at the Beaver Creek Resort by June 1, you can get an extra 10 percent off your room rate.
