On October 15th, the gun will go off for a truly unique "urban off-road triathlon." XTERRA Rockhopper in Tempe, Arizona, is a chance to play on the trails at Papago Park in Tempe Town Lake.
The 1000 m, one-lap swim in Tempe Town Lake will be followed by a two-lap, 13 mile mountain bike ride, and a 3.5 mile run in Papago Park.
The sandstone buttes and Sonoran Desert habitat set Papago Park apart, even in Arizona. The park is also home to the Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Garden. Just ten minutes from downtown Phoenix, Papago Park's desert trails are generally smooth, not technical, and relatively flat, making XTERRA Rockhopper a great course for beginners or new off-road triathletes.
