On October 8th, XTERRA heads to Southern California, for one of the most spectacular races in the Golden State. The third annual XTERRA Laguna Beach Triathlon and Trail Runs will begin at Crystal Cove State Park, just ten minutes south of Newport Beach.
XTERRA Laguna Beach Off-Road Triathlon
XTERRA Laguna Beach is a quintessential Southern California experience - swimming in the pristine waters along the natural seashore of Crystal Cove State Beach, mountain biking on some of the finest single track in the state, and then enjoying the views of the Pacific on the run.
The classic XTERRA race includes a 1500 m swim in the Pacific followed by a rigorous and hilly 25k bike ride before a very hilly 10k run.
A sprint distance is also on offer for people looking for the XTERRA experience in a smaller package. The sprint features a 500m swim in the ocean, followed by a slightly less rigorous 16k mountain bike ride before a nice and challenging 6k run in the hills.

XTERRA Laguna Beach Trail Runs
Offered on the same day as the off-road triathlon, the XTERRA Laguna Beach Trail Runs offer both 13k and 6k options - no swimming required. The trails in Crystal Cove State Park are a hidden gem of the Orange County region, from the wooded Moro Canyon, up to the spectacular coastal views of Moro Ridge. The park has over 15 miles of trails where you can run up steep hills to view the Pacific and head down through green valleys full of both cacti and wildflowers.
"This is a great long-course trail with steep single track and fast downhill sections," said race director Brennan Lindner.
The XTERRA Laguna Beach Trail Runs are the second event in the XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series. Next up is the XTERRA Turkey Trot Trail Run on November 23rd.
