The most recognizable man in XTERRA worldwide is without a doubt "Kahuna Dave" Nicholas, the sports original and long-time race director.
As the managing director of the XTERRA World Tour, Nicholas travels the world overseeing the biggest races, but did you know he's also a racer himself.
"While most of our sports activity centers around XTERRA, we all have other passions," said Nicholas. "Some ski, skydive, scuba or adventure race. I race cars."
Indeed he does, and Nicholas went back to his roots of sports car racing in 2013 and now competes in vintage races throughout the country.
"It's a lot of old guys in old cars" explained Nicholas. "This does not mean we don't race hard and fast and there have been some big accidents."
Nicholas won the SVRA (Sportscar Vintage Racing Association) Group 1 championship in 2013 and has won the first two SVRA races of 2015, as well as the all-MG focus race for 2015.
"I'd love to get another championship this year and if the car holds together, I think we can do it," he said.
Nicholas started racing cars in 1963 before most in the XTERRA Tribe were even born, and notched several major professional wins in the 70's.
His schedule this year includes racing at the world famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway in June and a return to Lime Rock Park in Connecticut over Labor Day weekend.
