McMahon, McQuaid win XTERRA Victoria
A pair of long-time XTERRA stars from Victoria, B.C., Canada took home the XTERRA Victoria off-road triathlon titles on Sunday.
“Having an XTERRA in my hometown was an absolute treat this year,” wrote McQuaid on her blog (read her full story at racergirl.com). “Thank you so much to race director Monique Moore and the Human Powered Racing team for putting on a top notch event at Durrance Lake. I think I speak for all of the competitors when I say what a great day it was, what a fun course it was and how great the entire event unfolded. So much fun!”
Mike Neill, a former professional triathlete and head coach of Human Powered Racing, brings us this report…
The 2013 XTERRA Victoria was another epic event; from super fast racing by some of the sports best, to some crazy wipe outs (on what is arguably one of the most technical XTERRA bike courses out there) this race gave the competitors a challenge that will make most races in the future seem pretty easy in comparison. Even our youth athletes got a bit more than they bargained for when a turn-around point was mistakenly unmarked and they took on the adult sprint course. They were true champions and made it to the finish line and should be extremely proud of themselves for persevering.
This is a race that is sure to grow because of the course, atmosphere (thanks to our race announcer Jasper Blake), venue, great sponsors and most importantly our volunteers. A big congratulations to all of our winners, including Victoria’s own Melanie Mcquaid and Brent McMahon who proved why they are two of the best in the sport in winning the championship event. To those that qualified for XTERRA World’s in Maui this October; GOOD LUCK from all of us at Human Powered Racing!
