RUN FOREST, RUN!
And swim and bike too. XTERRA Fort Yargo is set to kick off Saturday, April 28th in beautiful Winder, Georgia. Race director, David Berger, who has been in charge since 2004 says, “The competitors really enjoy this venue. Everything from the water, the trails, to the scenery is excellent.”
For the true race enthusiast, this race offers a particularly exciting opportunity. You can race in the XTERRA on Saturday and then wake up and race the same course Sunday in the Georgia State Championship series mountain bike race.
“The race will draw talent from almost all of the Southeast region,” states Berger. “Registration should top 200,” which is nearly double from last year. XTERRAs grow in popularity each year as more and more people find out about the unique race format, and this race is no exception.
With Atlanta less than an hour away, there is plenty to do as well. So come experience some southern charm all while enjoying the camaraderie of XTERRA down in the Peach State.

THEN COMES THE DEVIL
The second-running of the XTERRA Jersey Devil off-road tri features one of the series’ finest courses as it rushes through the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. The packed down pine needles and sand make for a fast and fun track, “but don’t worry,” says race director Bob Horn, “There are some muddy sections on the bike trail that will get everyone nice and dirty by the time they come back to T2.”
One of XTERRA’s top competitors and regional champs, Ken Robins, says, “The run is very challenging. There are parts that you can only walk going up or down. The run takes you from jeep trail to single track, crossing rivers on logs, steep up and downhills, swamps, dam crossings and tight twisty spooky forest sections.”
Horn explains, “The race benefits both the Joseph Citta Boy Scout Camp and the Amity Acres Girl Scout Camp, as well as the Wells Mills Park.” On top of it being for a great cause, there is a huge list of strong competitors already registered including regional champs Dominic Van Der Veen, Ken Robins, Blair Saunders, and Mike Hebe. Also attending will be XTERRA veterans such as Tad Norton and Paul Tartar. There is definitely no shortage of talent at the event. “Even the race director, Bob Horn, is a 3x regional champ!” exclaims Robins.
