Trail runners eager for races in the Beaver State will have a series of their own in 2013. The XTERRA Oregon Trail Run Series will feature three races in 2013, and each race is open to runners of all ages and skill levels.
The three races will take place in or near the Portland area. “Trail running in Portland is an enormously popular sport,” series director Shane Kroth said. “There are hundreds of miles of trails within a very short driving distance from the city, including Forest City, which consists of miles and miles of challenging trails in an old growth forest setting.”
The three races will take place in the summer of 2013, and it will be at three different locations to give runners a unique challenge at each event.
The first race is scheduled for June 9 at Browns Camp; the second race will be July 6 at Forest Park; the series finale is set for August 11 at Henry Hagg Lake.
“Weather in Portland during the early months of summer is unpredictable,” Kroth said. “June is usually cool with highs in the 50s and 60s, with some rain. July, depending on the year, starts the four months of no rain period we enjoy here in Oregon. Highs are usually in the 70s. The Championship Race in August is usually sunny with temperatures that can top 90 degrees.”
Many runners from Oregon are familiar with the XTERRA Trail Run Series because the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship was staged in Bend, Oregon, from 2008-10.
Registration for the 2013 XTERRA Oregon Trail Run Series is already open at www.xterrapdx.com.
Runners who register for all three races will receive an Oregon Series t-shirt. Also, a custom beer mug will be awarded to all finishers at each race.
Points will be awarded after each race to the top runners in each respective age group. Standings will be updated throughout the season, and at the conclusion of the series, each age-group winner will receive a free entry to run at the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship at Ogden, Utah, in September of 2013.
Oregon is one of 16 regions that will host an XTERRA Trail Run Series in 2013. The others are Alabama, Arizona, Atlantic, Southern California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Pocono, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Washington.
