Alabama SeriesThe popular XTERRA Alabama Trail Run Series will conclude with an epic – and nationally-recognized – finale at Oak Mountain State Park on May 21.

The XTERRA Oak Mountain Trail Run on May 21 at Pelham, Ala., will serve as the final race for the 2010-11 Alabama Series, and runners can choose to go long or longer to earn points. For the first time, the Oak Mountain event will feature both a 42-kilometer full-marathon course and a separate 21-kilometer half-marathon course.

Both courses will be honored for the series points, meaning the top runners from both courses will earn equal age-group points toward the Alabama Series. For example, the first-place finisher in the men’s 25-29 age group for the 42K course and the first-place finisher in the men’s 25-29 age group for the 21K course will each earn 100 points.

Alabama SeriesThere will also be shorter 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer “mud runs.” The 10K and 5K courses will not offer series points, but will offer runners a chance to experience fun and beauty of the Oak Mountain trails.

Runner’s World Magazine recently ranked Oak Mountain State Park as one of top 25 trails in America. What’s more, the XTERRA Oak Mountain Trail Run was listed as one of 32 “top trail races from sea to shining sea” in that same issue.

The 2010-11 XTERRA Alabama Series started with three races in the fall of 2010.  No races were scheduled for the winter months, giving runners ample time to recover and train for the upcoming finale.

Each age-group champion from the Alabama Series will receive a free entry to the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship on Sept. 25 at Ogden, Utah.
