XTERRA TRAIL RUN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
King, Anderson return to defend crowns at Snowbasin Resort
After two successful years at the Snowbasin Resort, it is safe to say that the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship has taken a liking to its new home near Ogden, Utah.
More than 700 runners representing more than 30 states from across the country will gather on the breathtaking trails alongside the Snowbasin Resort on September 22 to determine XTERRA's national champions of trail running for 2013. The venue served as host for the event in 2011 and 2012, and received rave reviews from runners.
"That course is one of my favorites for a trail run course," said Oregon's Max King, who won both the 2011 and 2012 races at Snowbasin. "It's beautiful that time of year with the changing colors and the crisp fall morning temps. The course is challenging but you can really run fast on it, which for me, plays to my strengths. I think it's a good mix of technical trail running, good climbing, fast smooth single tracks, and sweeping downhills. It has it all."
King should know. He is the five-time defending champion of the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship. His first three titles came in his hometown of Bend, Oregon, then he proved his worth by winning the next two in Utah.

Making it more impressive, King won the 2011 and 2012 titles while completing a "double championship" weekend. Both years, he won the USATF 50K Trail Championship in Oregon on a Saturday, then took a flight to Utah and won the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship the next day.
There is no such schedule conflict this year, so King will be able to maintain his focus on the Snowbasin race for the entire weekend.
Whether or not you are participating in this weekend’s XTERRA Trail Run National Championship, you can enter the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship on November 24.
This year’s XTERRA Trail Run Worlds will once again take place at the breathtaking Kualoa Ranch on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
The event is open to runners of all ages and abilities, from all states and countries. There is no qualifying process, so even runners who have never entered an XTERRA event before can enter this race.
There will be three courses to accommodate the various levels of runners – the 21-kilometer championship course, a 10K and a 5K. There will even be an “Adventure Walk” for those who just want to see some of the sights Kualoa Ranch has to offer.

COLORADO RACE WILL GO ON THIS WEEKEND
The XTERRA Marathon of Trail Races will take place as scheduled this Sunday at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Torrential rain and flooding last week caused tragic damage throughout the state, but the trails at Cheyenne Mountain are safe for racing this weekend, according to race director Victoria Seahorn.
“We will have to change the course some, as there are some trails that have too much damage to run on, but we have crews out there trying to repair as much as they can,” she said.
The Marathon of Trail Races is a unique event in that it offers three courses for runners to choose from: a 42-kilometer full-marathon, a 21K half-marathon, or a 5K. Each distance is open to runners of all ages, from all states.
A pre-race packet pick-up and in-person registration will be held on Saturday, September 21, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bristol Brewing Company in Colorado Springs. It will include a mini-expo, raffle prize give aways, and yoga classes.
Sunday’s race will start at 8 a.m. For more information, please visit www.marathonmajic.com.
The Marathon of Trail Races will be the first of four events during the 2013-14 season for the XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series.
ARIZONA SERIES STARTS OCTOBER 6
