XTERRA PHILLY TRAIL RUN SERIES CHAMPS: DIANE AND TOM GRIM
Tom and Diane Grim celebrated the fourth anniversary of their wedding earlier this month the best way they know how – running and biking.
It’s how they met and how they stay together, even though they don’t necessarily like to train together.
“We tried to train together when we first met, but I would always fall behind and whine about it so we decided it was best to each do our own thing,” said Diane. “We might go together on a group run, but we only see each other at the start and then we each go our own way. We’ve found that’s what works best.”
It has actually worked wonders in the XTERRA Philly Trail Run Series. The Grims each emerged as an age-group champion when the final standings for the series were calculated last month.

ALLEN AND ANDERSON PREVAIL AT TABLE ROCK
It was all about firsts at the XTERRA Table Rock Trail Run on Saturday, Aug. 20.
Jonathan Allen and Ashley Anderson were both entering an XTERRA Trail Run for the first time, and they wound up taking first-place honors. It was also the first time that the XTERRA Trail Run Series staged a race at Table Rock State Park in Pickens, S.C.
Allen was the overall winner, completing the 15-kilometer course in 1 hour, 43 minutes, 28 seconds. Anderson was the top female, finishing with a time of 1:53:43.
Anderson placed sixth overall and ran away from the other female runners. Lauren Bosshardt placed second in 1:57:08, and was the only other female to complete the course in less than two hours.
NOVAK, ZALESKI TAKE TOP HONORS AT GIRDLED ROAD
Thanks to his fast running, Charles Novak can be considered a fast learner.
Novak won the XTERRA Girdled Road Trail Run on Saturday, August 6. He completed the 10-kilometer course in 42 minutes, 41 seconds, and was more than a minute ahead of the rest of the field.
Novak, 43, is in his first year of trail running, but he has already earned two overall victories in the 2011 XTERRA Northern Ohio Trail Run Series. The Girdled Road race was the fifth of seven races in the 2011 Northern Ohio Series.
"I was introduced to trail running this year and so I wasn't sure what to expect," said Novak, who is from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. "I'm tickled to death with how things are going. The XTERRA Series has really been a blast. It makes me want to get out and train more and try to get faster."
Kelly Zaleski of Orrville, Ohio, placed 13th overall with a time of 49:31 and took top female honors. Zaleski has entered every race in the Northern Ohio Series so far this year, but this was her first overall victory.
DOUBLE DOSE OF RACES IN COLORADO
The XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series will conclude its 2011 season in unique fashion this weekend – with two races in two days.
The weekend event is called the XTERRA Snow Mountain Ranch Trail Runs, and it will feature a 10-kilometer race on Saturday, August 27, and then a 20-kilometer race on Sunday, August 28.
The races will be in the same location, so runners can choose to run on either Saturday or Sunday, or both Saturday AND Sunday. The Snow Mountain Ranch in Granby, Colo., will be the host site for the two races.
It should be noted that BOTH races will offer points toward the overall standings of the 2011 XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series, so runners in contention for age-group titles are being encouraged to enter both races.
The final age-group standings for the 2011 season will be determined at the conclusion of these races, and each respective Colorado age-group champion will receive a free entry to the 2011 XTERRA Trail Run National Championship at Ogden, Utah, on Sept. 24.
It should also be noted that this weekend’s races are open to runners of all ages and skill levels, even those who have never competed in an XTERRA race before.

For those looking to make a weekend stay, rooms and cabins are available at the Snow Mountain Ranch, with prices starting at $109 per night. For more information, please visit http://www.ymcarockies.org/snow-mountain-ranch-winter-park-colorado.html
TEXAS SERIES TO CONCLUDE AT MAGNOLIA HILL
The XTERRA Texas Trail Run Series will stage its 2011 season finale on Sunday, August 28, with the XTERRA Magnolia Hill Trail Run.
The event will feature two separate courses – a 16-kilometer course for experienced runners, and a 6-kilometer course for less-experienced runners and walkers. Only the 16K results will count toward the overall standings of the 2011 XTERRA Texas Trail Run Series.
The race will be held at Magnolia Hill Ranch in Navasota, Texas. The site is normally closed to the public, so it will give runners a rare opportunity to run on the property, which includes a picturesque lake and a large pine-tree forest.
