COUNTDOWN TO THE XTERRA TRAIL RUN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
After three years in Bend, Ore., the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship is moving. This year’s XTERRA Nationals will be held at the Snowbasin Resort near Ogden, Utah, for the first time.
The race is scheduled for Sept. 25, and registration is now open HERE.
Runners of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate as there is no qualification process. Elite Utah runner Rachel Cieslewicz offers some advice for runners who are thinking about registering for the race - including the great sports town of Ogden, the trails of Snowbasin and yes, the beer!
BOWMAN, CONNOR TAKE TOP HONORS AT CHAPIN FOREST
The XTERRA Northern Ohio Trail Run Series made its way to Chapin Forest last weekend, and Kyle Bowman was the first to navigate his way through the trees.
Bowman, 27, completed the 8-kilometer course in 31 minutes, 25 seconds, to win the XTERRA Chapin Forest Trail Run at Kirtland, Ohio, on Sunday, June 26. It was quite a debut for Bowman, who was entering an XTERRA Ohio Series race for the first time.
In the women’s division, Lee Conner continued her winning ways, finishing first with a time of 36:46. She has won all three XTERRA Northern Ohio Series races so far this season.
“The course is fairly non-technical, and at five miles, pretty darn short,” Conner said of her fast time.
Making this win more impressive, Conner completed a 40-mile race the week before the Chapin Forest race. She said her legs were still recovering, so didn’t want to try to break away from the other women early. Instead, Conner ran with the other top women for most of the course, then broke away on the final hill – about a half-mile from the finish.
COLORADO SERIES SET TO RESUME
If you're a runner and you like being first, then the 2011 XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series is for you.
The XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series is in its first full season, and the summer months will feature two new races at two picturesque locations.
On July 17, the first XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run will take place at the Beaver Creek Resort in Avon, Colo. The area has hosted XTERRA triathlons in recent years, but this will be the first year for a trail run.
The event will feature both a 21-kilometer course and a 10-kilometer course, so runners of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. The courses will feature several unique challenges - including an actual crossing of Beaver Creek. And in keeping with Colorado tradition, there will be more than 2,400 feet of elevation climbs.

INAUGURAL SNOW VALLEY TRAIL RUN SET FOR AUG. 6
Southern California has its first summer time XTERRA trail run thanks to XTERRA Snow Valley.
The inaugural XTERRA Snow Valley Trail Run will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6th, just across from Snow Valley at Rim Nordic Ski Center in Running Springs, Calif. Two courses will be offered for runners, 10 kilometers and 21 kilometers. The race is being held in conjunction with the popular XTERRA Snow Valley Triathlon.
XTERRA Snow Valley race director Gary McMurtrey said the 10-kilometer course will offer a really fun, rolling course through the forest with about 850 feet of climbing. The 21- kilometer racers will complete the course twice plus an additional 1k loop at the start.
"Rim Nordic is a popular site for cross country skiing in the winter," McMurtrey said. "And we think it will become a great spot for trail running in the summer as well. The local mountains are the perfect place to beat the summer heat. Having the trail run on Saturday and the triathlon on Sunday make for the perfect off-road multisport weekend."
Several athletes have already registered for both the trail run and triathlon, in what race directors are calling the Dirty Double.
The race also features unique finisher's medals, custom awards, and a free barbecue lunch for all participants.
A free preview run for the XTERRA Snow Valley Trail Run is scheduled for July 16 at 9 a.m. All runners are invited – even runners who are not yet registered for the actual race.
