UP NEXT: XTERRA'S WACKY WACO TRAIL RUN
There’s actually nothing really wacky about the 5, 10 or 21km races next weekend (except perhaps our race director “Kahuna Dave” Nicholas) but we just can’t help ourselves with the play on words. What runners will find is some of the sweetest single track in Texas. Y’all come out and join us to see for yourself.

RACE IN RICHMOND ... HELP THE HUNGRY
The people behind the SalaryShield® Challenge and the XTERRA East Championship are challenging you to help us feed the Richmond area’s hungry. Our goal is to collect 2,010 pounds of food for the Central Virginia Food Bank. The SalaryShield® team will match every pound of food or each charitable dollar we collect, up to 2,010 pounds. That’s 4,020 meals that we as a team could provide to people in need this summer. So please bring non-perishable food items (no glass please) or cash contributions to the SalaryShield® pavilion at the XTERRA East Champion June 19 and 20 and help make a difference in the local community.

TRAIL RUNNER SPOTLIGHT: KRISTIN THOR BUDDEN
Hometown: Rye Brook, NY
Family: Husband Chris and Dalmatian Chui
Occupation: High School Special Education Teacher
Team: Targe Training Elite Tri Team
As the undefeated champion of the brand new XTERRA Long Island Trail Run Series, Kristin Thor Budden has certainly set the bar high for New York runners. Between her busy schedule of teaching high school special education and triathlon training, Kristin gave us a little insight into why she loves XTERRA.
Tell us about your running history?
I have been running since sophomore year of high school and then went on to run at Providence College. My trail running days started when I was asked to be the running leg of an XTERRA relay team.
What motivates you to run?
I want to be a better triathlete and a positive role model for the kids I teach and coach.
What makes up your running schedule?
During tri season, I usually run 4+ days a week mixed in with swimming and cycling. Over the winter, I will focus more on running so my mileage will definitely increase. Training in the woods is fun and it makes the time fly by.
How does trail running help you?
I would have to say that it keeps me sane. Running is as much for the physical training as it is for my mental well-being. All I have to think about in the woods are what my next few steps are.
XTERRA Trail Runs are…
Awesome! Whenever I race XTERRA, I feel like I’m participating in something more than just a race.
