XTERRA TRAIL RUN SERIES GOES TO WASHINGTON
Washington is nicknamed the Evergreen State because of its abundant evergreen forests. Could there be a better setting for a new XTERRA Trail Run Series?
The XTERRA Pacific Northwest Trail Run Series will host its first race on March 24, when the XTERRA Fort Steilacoom Trail Run is staged at Lakewood, Washington.
"Trail running is growing by leaps and bounds over here," said Eric Bone, co-series director for the Pacific Northwest Series. "In the Seattle area, there were just a few events five or six years ago, and now there are a bunch of them. It just made sense to bring XTERRA here."
The XTERRA Pacific Northwest Trail Run Series will not become an official series until the 2012-13 season, but it will host two races on the 2011-12 schedule.
In addition to the Fort Steilacoom Trail Run in March, there will also be the XTERRA Lord Hill Trail Run at Snohomish, Washington, on June 2. That will give runners two chances to "test" the trails before the series officially starts in October.

XTERRA THRILLS IN THE HILLS THIS WEEKEND
The XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series will resume this weekend with the XTERRA Thrill in the Hills Trail Run at Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, Georgia.
The race will take place on Saturday, February 25, and it will feature two courses -- a 42-kilometer full marathon and a 21K half-marathon. The top age group finishers in both distances will earn points toward the overall standings of the XTERRA Georgia Series.
The event has already reached its capacity field of 500 runners, so there will be no race-day registration.

XTERRA LAKE LAS VEGAS TRAIL RUN SET FOR APRIL 15
There is less than two months to register for the 2012 XTERRA Lake Las Vegas Trail Run.
The always popular "trail run in the desert" is scheduled for April 15, and it will take place on a course just off the Aston MonteLago Village Resort at Lake Las Vegas - about 17 miles off the famous Las Vegas Strip.
The course features unique desert terrain, and the combination of hard-packed sand, loose rocks of various sizes, and a lack of forestation has led some runners to describe it as "like running on the moon."
"This race was really challenging, between the washed-out sandy sections, the big climbs, the rocky sections, and the competition itself," said last year's winner, Jeffrey Moreland, who resides in Reno, Nev. "I think I really benefitted from running on similar surfaces back in Reno."

The event is open to runners of all ages and skill levels, and there will be three separate courses for the various levels of runners - a 21-kilometer long course, a 10K and a 5K.
