XTERRA Trail Mix Newsletter

The XTERRA Pocono Trail Run Series offers some of the most challenging and beautiful terrain in the Northeast.  Race officials from that series believe athletes who conquer those rocks, hills, and swamps can compete with the best in the nation.  That’s why they are sending four accomplished XTERRA Trail Runners to the 2012 XTERRA Nationals.  Free.

Pocono RunnersThe first two trips will be awarded at the XTERRA Earth Conservancy Half-Marathon Trail Run on June 16 at Mocanaqua, Pennsylvania. The male and female winner of the 21-kilometer half-marathon race will each receive a round-trip ticket to Salt Lake City, Utah.

The next two trips will be awarded via a random draw at the end of the XTERRA Pocono Series season. There’s just one requirement – only runners that finish all five races in the series are eligible to win the trips.

After the final race in the series – the XTERRA Gouldsboro Trail Run on June 30 – all runners who have finished all five races will have their names on a list, and one male and one female will be selected at random from the list as the winners of the trips. Runners of all ages and skill levels are eligible to win the trips. The winners must be present at that final race to receive the prize.

As added incentive, the XTERRA Pocono Series is offering an early-registration special. Between now and May 4, runners can register for all five races in the series  for a total price of $100.

The race dates for the 2012 XTERRA Pocono Trail Run Series are:

May 5 – XTERRA Big Pocono Trail Run
May  19 – XTERRA Seven Tubs Trail Run
June 2 – XTERRA Hickory Trail Run
June 16 – XTERRA Earth Conservancy Half-Marathon Trail Run
June 30 – XTERRA Gouldsboro Trail Run

All races will be staged in the Pocono Region in northeast Pennsylvania. It is worth noting that there will be no XTERRA Trail Run events in the Philadelphia region in 2012, so the Pocono Series will be the only XTERRA series in Pennsylvania. The 2012 XTERRA Trail Run National Championship is scheduled for September 23 at Snowbasin Resort near Ogden, Utah. For more information on the national championship race, please visit www.xterratrailrun.com.

Several new races have been added to the XTERRA Trail Run Series 2012 schedule.

This weekend, Puerto Rico will host its first XTERRA Trail Run as the XTERRA Bayamon Trail Run is scheduled for Sunday, January 29. It will be the first of four XTERRA Trail Run races in Puerto Rico in 2012.

Several runners from the Bayamon area held a practice run earlier this month, and if THIS VIDEO is any indication, there are some beautiful trails awaiting runners in Puerto Rico.

After this weekend’s race, the Puerto Rico Series will stage races in May, August and November.

TN RunnersAfter a couple of years off the schedule, the XTERRA Tennessee Trail Run Series will make a return in 2012. Race director Victoria Seahorn has already secured two races on the schedule, and is in the process of adding at least one more.

“We hope that the XTERRA Tennessee Series will fill a void for the growing number of trail runners in this area of the United States who are looking for trail races,” Seahorn said. “Tennessee has some gorgeous and challenging trails, and we feel like it is a perfect setting for a series of races.”

The first race on the schedule for Tennessee will be the XTERRA Power to the Tower Trail Run on April 7. That will be followed by the XTERRA Tanasi Trail Run on May 19.

The last time Tennessee hosted an XTERRA Trail Run was in 2009.

Two new races in Washington state will also join the XTERRA Trail Run Series schedule in 2012. The first event will be the XTERRA Fort Steilacoom Trail Run at Lakewood, Wash., on March 24. That will be followed by the XTERRA Lord Hill Trail Run at Snohomish, Wash., on June 2.

More races in the region will be added later in the year, and the XTERRA Pacific Northwest Series will become a full series in 2013.

Arizona doesn’t have a team in the Super Bowl this year. Neither does California. So why not spend the day at an XTERRA Trail Run.

Mission Gorge StairsThe XTERRA Arizona Trail Run Series and the XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series will both host races on Sunday, February 5, which is the same day as the Super Bowl.

The XTERRA McDowell Mountain Trail Run will take place at Fountain Hills, Arizona, and it will feature a 24-kilometer long course for experienced runners, and a 7-kilometer scenic course for less-experienced runners.

The XTERRA Mission Gorge Trail Run will take place at Santee, California, and will feature a 15K long course and a 5K short course. The long course features the notorious “1,000 steps” at Mission Trails Regional Park.

Both the Arizona and SoCal races will be held in the morning, leaving runners ample time to watch the Super Bowl later that afternoon. As Arizona Series director Shannon Lindner noted: “What better way to pre-burn those beer calories?”
