XTERRA TRAIL RUNS GO FOR THE SNOW
Has Mother Nature been forcing you to train on a treadmill? This year, we have your solution to the running off-season with the XTERRA Snowshoe Championship. Part of the XTERRA Winter World Championship weekend taking place March 6-8 in Ogden, UT, the XTERRA Snowshoe Races are the perfect way to get out of your rut and get outside on the trails. Scheduled for Saturday, March 7, there are two distances, the 10km Championship event and the 5km Citizen’s Race. DEWITT AND CASTELANELLI WIN FIRST XTERRA RACE OF 2009
In the “windiest XTERRA Boney Mountain Trail Run to date” according to race director Brennan Lindner, 438 runners came out to Newbury Park, CA on January 10th for the first XTERRA race after the new year.
The weather didn’t stop Benjamin Dewitt, 23 from Ventura, CA, from posting the fastest time of the day for the 21km course in just 1:33:48. Less than a minute behind was 33-year old Patrick Baldwin of Del Mar to claim second place. Santa Barbara resident Christina Castelanelli, 30, took the women’s title in 1:50:52 crossing the finish line almost 3 minutes ahead of Jen Todd. The youngest runner in the Xduro event was 14-year old Hannah Rae Finchamp, from Altadena, who turned in an amazing 7th place finish overall.
In the 6km race, it was 19-year old Luke Klein who proudly took first place for the men in his hometown with his time of 30:41 while Lara Ray, 40, from Camarillo won for the women just a minute later.

XTERRA UPDATE
Back in April, we told you about Jim Roth and Staci Schilling, a couple who met at the 2003 XTERRA Malibu Creek Challenge Trail Run. We are happy to announce that Staci and Jim became Mr. and Mrs. Roth on August 9th. According to Jim, “Staci is so beautiful and loves trail running…I am a very lucky guy.” Of course they are still hitting the trails, but now it’s as husband and wife. Congratulations Jim and Staci!
