TOP 10 REASONS TO RUN AT THE RANCH

The XTERRA Trail Running World Championship returns to Kualoa Ranch on December 6 with one of the most scenic half-marathon trail races on the planet. The course itself is pure nature – secluded singletrack trails and dirt roads framed by a pair of dramatic knife-edged mountain ridges that drop into the ocean. See the pictures and highlight video from last year for visual proof.

Max KingIn addition to the main event which dishes out $10,000 in prize money and attracts big name runners like Max King (pictured) and Heather Fuhr, there are also 5km and 10km fun runs, a 5km walk that explores the movie sets in the valley, and free kids races.

Having the rare opportunity to run in one of Hawaii's most pristine landscapes should be reason enough to jump into this event, but for runners looking for even more incentive, here's a Top 10 list:

10. Run where the dinosaurs ran in the original Jurassic Park, and actually step in their footprints!

9. Play in the country and expose your kids to the healthy, active, outdoors lifestyle.

8. Run in a pack with people from around the world.

7. Help a worthy cause - the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Hawaii Chapter.

6. Bring a marathoner. They can cheer you on the trail, and you can cheer them on a week later at the Honolulu Marathon.

5. XTERRA will be giving out some really cool swag thanks to our prize patrons and sponsors.

THANKSGIVING DAY TURKEY TROT

Several hundred SoCal runners will be earning the right to feast guilt-free on Thanksgiving dinner by virtue of sweating off at least a portion of the to-be-consumed calories at the annual XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot in the cliffs and canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains at Trippet Ranch on November 26.

The host venue at Topanga State Park features a 36-mile trail system with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean all within the Los Angeles city limits and is considered the world’s largest wild land within the boundaries of a major city.

The event offers 5km, 10km and 15km trail races, but just the 15km race will award points in the XTERRA SoCal Trail Running Series standings. This is the second of six races in the 2009/2010 SoCal Series that honors regional champions and free entry into XTERRA Trail Run Nationals to Series' champs in each age division.
