THE XTERRA / PILOT BUTTE CHALLENGE DOUBLE

The XTERRA / Pilot Butte Challenge WinnersAs if completing the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 27 in Bend, Oregon weren’t a big enough accomplishment, 5 brave runners set out the following day to complete the second leg of the XTERRA/Pilot Butte Challenge Double. After running over 13 miles on Saturday, the 1-mile Pilot Butte Challenge should have been a walk in the park. However, this one mile event raced straight up the side of an extinct volcano. Thomas Taylor and Andrea Berger (both pictured) had the fastest combined times in the XTERRA Trail Run Nationals and Pilot Butte Challenge. Taylor, 33 from Phoenix, AZ, came in overall 9th at the XTERRA Trail Run Nationals and took 2nd place at Pilot Butte for a total time of 1:26:03. Georgia Regional Champion Berger, 45 from Forsyth, GA ran a combined 2:13:10. Congratulations to them both.
