XTERRA West Championship

XTERRA returns to Lake Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2015 XTERRA West Championship.

Located just 17 miles from the famous Las Vegas Strip, this is your chance to spend a weekend racing and take in some fabulous entertainment at the beautiful MonteLago Village at Lake Las Vegas Resort.

XTERRA West Championship events include a full-length XTERRA championship race, a shorter distance XTERRA Sprint race as well as 5/10/21km runs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This terrain is challenging but fun. The climbs are long and steep, the descent’s are fast and rocky. It is extremely hardpacked but rocky. There is no significant, loose, deep or prolonged sand on this course.

1.5k swim / 28.2k mountain bike / 10k trail run

XTERRA Sprint
750m swim / 14k mountain bike / 5k trail run

*Course routes are subject to change.

Pre-Riding:

The XTERRA race course is on private property.
There is NO authorized pre-riding of the course prior to April 23.
The course is open to practice Thursday, April 23 and Friday, April 24.

Bike Shipping and Bike Tech

They also have a limited number of rental bikes available and will be on-site for 2 days prior to the event stocked with all the gear, parts and last minute wrenching services you need.

Wetsuit Policy

XTERRA follows the Swimming Conduct rules for Wetsuit Use established by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) at all Championship Races (Vegas, Pelham, Richmond, Beaver Creek), the XTERRA USA Championship (Utah), all XTERRA World Tour events, and the XTERRA World Championship. Here are the specifics of the ITU Wetsuit Use Rules:

  • Wetsuits are mandatory for Age Group athletes if the water temperature is BELOW 57 degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees C)
  • Wetsuits are permitted for Age Group athletes if the water temperature is AT or BELOW 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees C)
  • Wetsuits are forbidden for Age Group athletes if the water temperature is ABOVE 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees C)
  • Wetsuits are mandatory for Professional athletes if the water temperature is BELOW 57 degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees C)
  • Wetsuits are permitted for Professional athletes if the water temperature is AT or BELOW 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees C).
  • Wetsuits are forbidden for Professional athletes if the water temperature is ABOVE 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees C)

SWIM PRACTICE UPDATE: Swim practice could be cancelled by water safety officials if high winds prevent them from operating kayaks and SUP’s properly.  Notice will be posted as early as 11am on Friday at the race compound.

XTERRA Sprint Race

Distance: 750 meter swim / 14k mountain bike / 5k trail run

The XTERRA Sprint race is a half-distance race run on the same course and day as the championship race. The race is a great opportunity for new competitors, or for those who want a less-demanding XTERRA experience.

The XTERRA Runs at Lake Las Vegas are adventurous and fun. From a casual 5k run/walk around Lake Las Vegas to a grueling 21k half-marathon – XTERRA has a challenge just for you.

Get ready to XTERRA with the sport’s best. XTERRA University, presented by Paul Mitchell, offers competitors a chance to take in last-minute advice and pointers from the best off-road multisport athletes in the sport.

The FREE sessions target improved swimming, biking and trail running techniques plus dealing with the specifics of the Lake Las Vegas course. There will be time for Q & A with the pros during each session. All classes will be held at the race compound at Lake Las Vegas.

A USA Triathlon license is required. Single-day licenses are available for $12 through XTERRA registration.
