XTERRA Sport - (Ogden)

The XTERRA Sport race packs all the thrills of an XTERRA into half the distance. The 750-meter swim, 19k mountain bike and 5k trail run is perfect for first-timers or for those seeking a less-demanding XTERRA challenge.

Registration Information

On-site Registration: Friday, August 15 Noon to 8pm at Amphitheater Park.

Rates: $75 for individuals and $110 for teams.

Registration fee includes an event T-shirt, athlete recovery, and awards meal. Please note: A USA Triathlon license is required. Single-day licenses are available for $10 through XTERRA registration.

Course Information

SWIM
(15-minute drive from the finish area at Snowbasin) The race begins with a 1500-meter swim (750 for Sport) in Pineview Reservoir, where water temps hover near the "wetsuit-required" range. A final determination will be made on-site and posted at the registration tent.

MOUNTAIN BIKE
Racers leave T1 and head west toward Ogden Canyon for the 30K mountain bike (19K for Sport). Mild, steady climbs warm up the legs for more demanding climbs on the first half of the bike leg. A blend of single track and rocky double track will test your bike skills. Make your move soon, because there's a lot of single track ahead. Turn left near Pineview Dam on to Wheeler Creek Trail heading south. Single track dominates the next ten miles of trail. Course elevation climbs to 7,000 feet during the bike leg and takes just one downhill break at about the halfway point. The descent brings you down 550 feet in elevation over a mile and a half. It's a great time to breathe deep and catch a second wind. The final four miles climb back up to about 6,700 feet to T2.

TRAIL RUN
Get ready for more climbing! If you can take your eyes off the trail ahead (and take your mind off the burning in your legs), you'll be treated to a scenic horizon dominated by towering aspens. Take a deep breath and take it all in. You'll need it for the next section of the run. Halfway through the run is the highest point on the entire course at about 7,500 feet. We'll bring you back down to the race compound and through to the finish at Snowbasin.

Wetsuit Policy

XTERRA follows the Swimming Conduct rules for Wetsuit Use established by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) at all XTERRA Regional Championship races. Wetsuits rules are as follows:

AGE GROUP ATHLETES

Wetsuits are mandatory for Age Group athletes if the water temperature is BELOW 57 degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees C)

Wetsuits are permitted for Age Group athletes if the water temperature is AT or BELOW 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees C)

Wetsuits are forbidden for Age Group athletes if the water temperature is ABOVE 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees C)

PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES

Wetsuits are mandatory for Professional athletes if the water temperature is BELOW 57 degrees Fahrenheit (14 degrees C)

Wetsuits are permitted for Professional athletes if the water temperature is AT or BELOW 68 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees C)

Wetsuits are forbidden for Professional athletes if the water temperature is ABOVE 68 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees C)

Note: Water temperatures in Pineview Reservoir can fluctuate by as much as 10 degrees day to day. Water temperature will be taken on race morning and a determination as to wetsuit use will be made at that time.  BRING YOUR WETSUIT!!

Our dedicated team of volunteers across the US and abroad has been key to bringing the XTERRA experience to more people in more places. As the sport grows the need for volunteers increases. XTERRA Mountain Championship

XTERRA Collegiate

New for this year is the college category. Any collegian with a current photo ID can race for their school as an individual and get a break on Championship distance registration fees, and whenever there are three athletes from two or more schools entered they’ll race against each other for school pride in the college team division. There are no age groups in the college division – just male and female. Come October 4 in Lake Tahoe, all college students are welcome to race for the inaugural XTERRA Collegiate National Championship.

GU Relay Team Challenge

You can forge together units of two or three people and challenge XTERRA as a team in either the sport or championship race. This is a great way to get started in XTERRA and share the spirit of adventure with friends or family members, and the crew will even help pair up individuals if you need a teammate (simply send an e-mail to info@xterraplanet.com).

XTERRA Wheeler Canyon Xduro - 21K

Date: Saturday, August 16 at 10am

This endurance event will be on the same bike course that our XTERRA triathlon athletes will be competing on.

Parking will be at Snowbasin Resort where you will ride a shuttle to Pineview. Limited parking is available at Pineview.

Breeder's Choice XTERRA K9 Challenge

Made for Fun obstacle course time trials for dogs and their owners

A 20-yard sprint, a speed-crawl through a tunnel, a bounding leap over a 2-foot-high block, a hairpin turn into a set of mixed sized step-overs, another cutting turn to a teeter-totter, up, over, one last jump, then a 15-yard sprint to the finish. No, it’s not the latest version of American
Gladiator or a behemoth football player tackling the agility drill at the NFL Combine, this is the brand new Breeder’s Choice XTERRA K9 Challenge - a timed race with owner-dog teams competing against the clock on a combined trail run and obstacle course. Completing the challenge will take anywhere from 20 seconds to one minute, and it’s not limited to highly trained or specialized dogs so all are welcome to
participate in this “made for fun” event.

Fee: $10 (Portions of your registration fee benefit the Petco Foundation)

Cruise for a Cause

Date: Friday, August 15, 6:30PM, Ogden Amphitheater

The XTERRA Cruise for a Cause charity bike ride is a benefit for Weber Pathways. Bring your friends and family and ride in this non-competitive, all-inclusive 5 - 6 mile ride (approximately 30 minutes). The ride starts and ends at the XTERRA Village and winds down the Ogden River Parkway. Bike and helmet required.

Fee: $25 individual, includes t-shirt and a $20 donation to Weber Pathways

$50 family, includes t-shirts and $40 donation to Weber Pathways

XTERRA University

Date: August 15

Get ready to XTERRA with the sport's best. XTERRA University, presented by Paul Mitchell, offers competitors a chance to take in last-minute advice and pointers from the best off-road multisport athletes in the sport on August 15.

The FREE sessions target improved swimming, biking and trail running techniques plus dealing with the specifics of the Ogden course. There will be time for Q & A with the pros during each session. All classes will be held at the race compound in Ogden.

XTERRA Kids Zone

On your mark, get set, gooooo kids! Getting involved in the healthy, active, outdoors lifestyle has never been more fun. For the youngsters 12 years and under, the XTERRA Kids Zone offers up running and bicycle races as well as obstacle courses and agility drills. Every kid who participates wins a prize, and these events are super fun and totally free!

XTERRA After Party

Biker's Edge, the official bike shop of the Mountain Championship, is rolling out the red carpet for XTERRA racers by presenting "The Great Ogden food, wine, beer, and Sundogs celebration" on Saturday night at the Outdoor Amphitheater in downtown.  Local restaurants including Roosters Brewing Company, Bistro 258, Union Grill, Peddler's, Artisan Grill and Rickenbacker's Bistro will serve-up award-winning food at the Taste of Ogden's open-air dining extravaganza. A highlight video with footage from the day's race will play on a big screen and then a kick-butt rock-n-roll band from Atlanta, The Sun Dogs who are said to have "The Black Crowes in their souls and the Mississippi blues in their hearts" will keep the mojo flowing well after dark.

Race Day Instructions

PLEASE ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME TO SET UP TWO TRANSITIONS AND GET TO THE RACE START.
Race start and T1 are at Pineview Reservoir.
Race finish and T2 are at Snowbasin.

THERE IS LIMITED PARKING AT PINEVIEW AND INTERMITTENT ROAD CLOSURES AT THE PINEVIEW SPILLWAY as bikers cross the road into Wheeler Canyon.

TO AVOID DELAYS OR MISSING YOUR START, WE RECOMMEND YOU PARK YOUR CAR AT THE SNOWBASIN FINISH AND TAKE THE FREE SHUTTLE TO THE PINEVIEW RACE START.

Suggested set-up:
Drive to T1 and set-up your swim/bike transition.  Your bike will be secure at T1.
Then drive your car to Snowbasin, park and set-up your bike/run transition.
Take the shuttle back to the start.

Numbered TRANSITION BAGS will be provided for use at T1.
Put your wetsuit and swim gear inside your bag and close it up.
We will deliver it to T2.
If you stuff is not put inside your bag, we cannot be responsible for getting it to you.

The first shuttle leaves Snowbasin at 7am.
The last shuttle for XTERRA Championship athletes leaves Snowbasin at 8:20am.
