XTERRA
The Milwaukee course is a true urban affair. Our main compound is on Lake Michigan at Veteran's Park near McKinley Beach and Marina. The swim will be clockwise laps at the southernmost point with a moderate run back to Veterans Park. The bike takes off over a pedestrian bridge spanning Lincoln Memorial Drive onto the fantastic Oak Leaf trail. Milwaukee County has done a fabulous job in turning a defunct railroad bed into a world class trail system that goes alongside the Milwaukee River for miles. The trails travel up to Port Washington Road and back. Sport will do one lap and XTERRA will do a turnaround below Locust Street and do the whole thing again. The east side of the river offers some very technical, twisty riding, the west side is faster and more open. As previously mentioned we can't publish our final bike routing until we have permission from a few private landowners. But trust us, this is going to be GREAT! Once back at Veterans Park runners will take off north alongside the lake and do another cross over Lincoln Memorial Drive on a pedestrian overpass and into some steep ravines and gnarly running in the upper part of Veterans Park. This will be a wild, twisty route that you'll be happy to be finished with. The return takes you back across the highway along Lake Michigan and back to the finish.
Registration Information XTERRA Start Time: 8:30 am Packet pick-up: Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10:30 am - 5:00 pm
Volunteers Our dedicated team of volunteers across the US and abroad has been key to bringing the XTERRA experience to more people in more places. As the sport grows the need for volunteers increases. This year we need people to help with pre-race and race-day activities. Please e-mail our volunteer coordinator. Tell us what you're interested in doing and what you're availability is. We'll try to find a place for you at XTERRA. We hope you can join us at this year's XTERRA World Championship.
Smith, Whitmore Win Ultimate Mud-In-Your-Eye XTERRA Milwaukee's reputation preceeded itself. Last year's race was wild, to say the least. A bone-chilling swim and temps soaring into the 90s made for truly challenging race day conditions. As this year's race day approached, athletes sat glued to the Weather Channel. The news was good. Nice weather was predicted for race day. But as athletes began their race warm-ups a gnarly storm moved into Milwaukee and trashed everyone's picture-prefect day. Thunder and lightening shuttered the skies and downpours muddied the trails. A quick change of race format sent atheltes out on a run-bike-run for a mudfest that made XTERRA history. Below is a list of the surviors who topped their divisions, despite the muddy mess. For more about the Milwaukee Mudfest, check out the: OFFICIAL RACE REPORT AGE GROUP CHAMPIONS
Members of the media with credentials can be sent the official race report, access to the high-resolution, full-color photo gallery and results. For more information contact: In addition to the main event, there are activities for everyone. Events span the weekend with a variety of racing, clinics, and outdoor fun at the XTERRA Expo in Veteran's Park. Bring the family and enjoy all that XTERRA has to offer.
Alterra Mountain Bike Ride
The XTERRA Sport race is a half-distance race held on the same course as the championship race. It is a great opportunity for new competitors or those who want a less-intense XTERRA challenge.
Take a break from the road and try an XTERRA Scramble. Our runs are fun, crooked, bumpy, muddy and gutsy - a surefire way to get your heart rate pumping. Two distances (10K and 5K) give runners of all levels their choice of courses.
