![]() XTERRA World ChampionshipWhere: Makena, Maui, HIWhen: October 28, 2007
The XTERRA World Championship is the culmination of a national and international series of more than 100 qualifying events. In the United States, more than 50 races pave the way to the World Championship. Events around the world bring athletes from the XTERRA Global Tour to compete at the world level. Pro athletes compete for a $125,000 pro purse. In addition, "The Double" awards $5,000 to the male and female pro athlete with the fastest combined Ironman World Championship and XTERRA World Championship times. Hawaiian Airlines will also award the top male and female a pair of round-trip tickets from the West Coast to Maui. How to Qualify | Registration | Race Course | Volunteer Information How to QualifyThe XTERRA World Championship is maxed out at 600 qualified and "at large" competitors.
3. Jamba Juice Mountainman Triathlon on the island of Oahu gives Hawaii residents an opportunity to qualify for Worlds, however anyone may race and earn Maui slots. The race offers 58 slots to top finishers of any nationality across all age groups. Visit (www.bocahawaii.com) for more information. Registration InformationEntry Fees: Individual $275 / Hawaii resident $250 Race Course1.5k swim / 30k mountain bike / 11k trail run Pre-riding of the course is not permitted. Violators will be disqualified. The course is privately-owned land made accessible exclusively for this race. A practice course will be made available to registered competitors. Please check the athlete info tab at the top of this page for information. SWIM: The open ocean swim is two laps of a 750-meter triangular course starting on Makena Beach, with a 50-meter beach run between laps. BIKE: There will be one transition area for both the bike and run located at the Maui Prince Hotel. We'll incorporate most of the old course in our plan. The classic Maui Volcano course is still with us after 10 years. Anyone who rode in 1996 will recognize most of it. Same course as 2006 for those returning from last year. Hot, dusty, short and steep, long and relentless and then "the plunge". RUN: Last year's course proved tough and rugged. It will remain the same for 2007 so expect an easy first mile (if you like climbing) and nothing but rough terrain, lava rocks, uneven surfaces, then more up and down and plenty of sand to simply burn your legs to death. *Course is subject to change Mountain Bike Course Elevation Gain Table
Awards
Pro MEN WOMEN Age Group Age Groupers "Fire and Ice" Trophy Spectators GuideThe Maui Prince Hotel is the place to be! The swim starts at Maluaka Beach fronting the Prince, and there are plenty of great vantage points to watch the mass start. Pros are easy to spot with their identifying swim caps - men in blue and women in pink, and a short beach sprint mid-race between two 750-meter laps gives spectators a chance to pick out their favorite friends and family from the field. As the race progresses you'll get live race reports, watch the action unfold on a big screen TV, shop at XTERRA Gear, eat at the food booths, drink in the Pacifico beer garden, and enjoy a front row seat to one of the greatest spectacles in all of sport - the spontaneous, ecstatic, and sometimes tear-jerking displays of emotion at the finish line. VolunteersAll volunteer positions have been filled. Our dedicated team of volunteers across the US and abroad has been key to bringing the XTERRA experience to more people in more places. As the sport grows the need for volunteers increases. This year we need people to help with pre-race and race-day activities. Tell us what you're interested in doing and what you're availability is. We'll try to find a place for you at XTERRA. We hope you can join us at this year's XTERRA World Championship.

Conrad Stoltz, Julie Dibens win XTERRA Worlds
Stoltz, who finished just over a minute ahead of Olivier Marceau from France with a winning time of 2:40:54, became the first man to win a 3rd XTERRA World Championship (he also won in 2001 and 2002) while Julie Dibens dominated in her first every Maui race by crossing the finish line more than eight minutes ahead of runner-up Melanie McQuaid in 3:01:24. Both took home $25,000 for their efforts. The first leg – a one-mile swim in the warm waters of the clear blue Pacific Ocean - proved who the strongest swimmers were. Twenty-year-old Jordan Bryden was first out of the water in 19:47, followed by Sergio Saruiento from Mexico, Bevan Docherty from New Zealand, then Marceau and Cedric Fleureton from France. The second pack included the brothers from Spain - Hektor and Eneko Llanos, chased closely by South Africans Lieuwe Boonstra and Stoltz. Once out on the treacherous lava-strewn jeep track trails heading up the lower slopes of Haleakala, the race belonged to those with the biggest lungs and best abilities on the mountain bike. Stoltz went from 10th out of the water to first on the bike by the notorious Heartbreak Hill section at mile 4, followed 20 seconds back by Marceau, then Fleureton, Docherty and Llanos.
