XTERRA RacesUncover nature one root, rock, and mud puddle at a time with the XTERRA America and XTERRA Global Tours. The 2008 Schedule lists the most worthy places for adventure, from the epic Sierra Nevada mountain range to the tropical jungles of Saipan. There are races at sea level and altitude, with swims in lakes, rivers, and oceans - in big cities and small towns - from the desert to the mountains. XTERRA Trail Runs remind you it's more fun to run off-road. Hop across rocks, soar across streams, zig-zag your way along a mountain trail. Be a kid again and rediscover your super-charged sense of adventure and wonder. XTERRA hosts Trail Runs at all the championship venues and stand alone races in major cities across the country. Proceeds from each benefit local charities with Hawaiian Airlines is awarding roundtrip airfare between the West Coast and Honolulu to the 10K women's amateur winner in Temecula, Tahoe and Maui. This year, go someplace new and have some fun. Live more.
New DUESOUTH XTERRA South Africa Champion Crowned
Pre-race expectations predicted a tough challenge and action-packed competition. At just over 900 entries, this year saw the biggest number of competitors in the event's history and both the individual men's and ladies division of the event caused a huge upset. Dan Hugo and Eszter Erdelyi (Hungary) successfully stole the coveted DUESOUTH XTERRA South African Champion title from three-times World Champion Conrad Stoltz and defending ladies champion Michelle Lombardi respectively. Dan Hugo, Felix Schumann from Germany and Conrad Stoltz were under the top five men to exit the water. It was during the mountain-bike leg, however, that Hugo and Stoltz made a break from Schumann, who comes from a road-bike background and is not yet comfortable with technical mountain-bike routes. Stoltz unfortunately punctured the front tire of his mountain-bike, putting Hugo in the lead. Hugo made a blistering transition into the running leg, knowing that this is where Schumann's strength was. He, however, managed to maintain his lead crossing the finish line in 02hours 05minutes 54seconds.
